Installation / upgrade logs

When I run the paf.exe file it either installs or upgrades. When it upgrades, it deletes some files also. It is great that paf.exe file takes care of upgrade intelligently (presumably without loosing old settings and any new settings that were not present in old version, will nicely get merged etc when we start using the app).

It would be useful to see a log of the installation/upgrade process (especially upgrade of course). Presently when I click "show details" it shows deleting.., extracting..., etc but these are lost the moment installation/upgrade is done.

Please add an option to log this into a file.

Already Exists

Just pass /LOG=true on the command line and it will drop a log in the same directory the installer is in. Note that it will not work in silent/automated mode (such as via the PA.c Platform). In terms of details, it only shows exactly what the details Window shows.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

managing portableapps collections

hmmm ...
I have several pa collections in many different places on several types of media, some portable some stationary some in networks .....
Some of my early ones used the pafmenu for portable and non portable apps and some run old win95 software others have lots of experimental stuff some are nested others are combined with other menusystems such as asuite. As you can see a lot of things to easily lose track of. So some managing tools could be really usefull. I was thinking of a list or log that tells me what is in a certain collection, when an app was last updated, which app is officially suported by pa and which is unknown to pa so possibly leaves stuff behind although it runs from the menu. Considering the dropping of apps such as FretsonFire information on the status, such as supported - not supported - support dropped, would be nice also.

My typical installation I use today is something like:
Asuite as base menu,
nested in this a pafmenu with workabillity/office apps,
and a pafmenu with games
and a pafmenu with tools, utils and problemsolvers.
At the Asuit level there are other programs, some old some non free and other collections such as spezific tool collections such as nirsoft or working with grafik files with collections for pixel, vector and CAD-files or GIS and OSM related stuff such as gpx and kml editors or the editors for working with OpenStreetMap (osm). Not to forget fun/hobby/game collections for playing with Lego, playing Minecraft, tools for Warcraft or as just built for someone, tools for programming sewing machines. -andlotsmore- of course all this adjusted or reduced for different people, jobs, places or security levels.

So what I was thinking of was some sort of button or menuentry I can click to generate a list. This list could be simmilar to the more apps list and the development list. Actually simply saving the "more apps" list to my drive (as html?) with all available/supported apps and those marked that I have installed would be great allready. Of course if those apps that show up in the menu but are not supported or obsolete or have some other status are marked as well would be even better.

I don't know wether this is feasable by expanding the LOG=true function or should rather be a new function request for the PortablAppsLauncher. It could start here and move on to something more sophisticated. Eventually it could become a standalone app the might be able to consider nested PAF collections, although I dont think it should venture in root or base direction as the PAF collection could be anywhere in a large folder tree.
