Shockwave

I just installed pFF - great concept!

I'm having trouble with macromedia...I installed the Flash player with no problems, but I can't seem to get the Shockwave player to work. I followed the instructions at https://portableapps.com/support/portable_firefox#plugins, tried several times. I tried to install to both \PortableFirefox\firefox\plugins and \PortableFirefox\plugins, but the sample movie doesn't work at http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/welcome/ . The Flash demo works, but the Shockwave player does not. In the status bar is "Connecting to download.macromedia.com". I do have a np32dsw.dll in both directories mentioned.

System is W98, pFF 1.5.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Nothing else you can do

The method is a bit of a hack. And if you have the DLL there, it should work. It has in the past for me.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

The problem with Shockwave...

The problem with Shockwave is that the plugin depends on a lot of files. This is in stark contrast to the Flash plugin, which works fine with just npswf32.dll in the plugins directory, even if nothing else is installed locally (since all the Flash code is in that file, rather than split amongst several). Even if you put np32dsw.dll into PFF\plugins, you still need to have a local copy of Shockwave installed. If you do... well, I don't know what to tell you.

Other Files?

So would you have a list of files necessary for shockwave? Does shockwave *need* to be installed on the host, or is there a way of having it only on the flash drive? Does it depend on registry entries?

Thanks.

Good question

Good question. I'll have to do some experiments and then get back to you on that one.

Hmm...

After installing and uninstalling Shockwave a few times, it seems that the plugin relies on quite a few registry entries (the uninstaller seems to remove a good number of them). It doesn't look like it's possible to make it completely portable.

Looking at the registry entries the installer creates, I see system-dependent entries like the location of the Shockwave files (remember, your USB key's drive letter is likely to change between systems) under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. I'm not sure if the player truly depends on the rest of the entries under HKLM, but my guess is a good deal are pretty important (this is almost by definition under HKLM).

It looks to me like a portable Shockwave player is out of the question at this stage.

Thanks...

Thanks for checking. That's disappointing. Anyone know of an os package that can play Shockwave?

Shockwave 10 install made easy

I made this installer by extracting the Shockwave Installer and moving the files manually into my Portable Firefox Plugins folder.

My reason for making this installer is so that users without Administrative Privileges can install the plugin hassle free.

You can download the installer from

It is verified virus free and adware free
