Can I use the update function in portable programs? Will it not screw up the install and convert the program from portable to non-portable?

Well I tried to update Clamwin Portable to .88.7 after I read:
"To upgrade to a newer version of ClamWin Portable, just download a new copy and unzip it to your portable drive. You can delete your old copy. If you've saved any preferences, be sure to copy your profile from PortableClamWin\clamwin\bin\ClamWin.conf from the old copy to the the new one. If you have any logs or quarantine files you wish to save, copy those directories as well."
It took me to Clamwin website and I downloaded the program setup. It was not a zipped file it was an install file and it installed it on my notebook computer and when I tried to run it it said :
Can't run can't find python32.dll file.
So I removed and deleted all of this and got Clamwin 88.5 back from the recycle bin and will continue to use it.
So the question is how do I update Clamwin to its current version of 88.7?
It appears I need to wait until the latest version is available at PortableApps.com.
If so can someone confirm. Thanks and again thanks to JH for a terrific job.

I think the support page talks about a different updat. I think it means installing a new portable version when it gets released. The update i'm talking about is when you go to 'Help' and choose 'Check for Updates' or some 'auto update'.
I thought John would have updated those pages by now. I was wrong.
Autoupdate in FxP and TBP do not break portability.
I didn't mean to be rude earlier; I just thought that the autoupdate info would be on the support page.

If I understand you correctly FireFox-portable and ThunderBird-portable can be autoupdated. Great
What I'm still curious about is what to do with other applications, which don't have an auto-update feature: ClamWin, mentioned in the original message, and also OpenOffice, which just released version 2.1.

the use of most people. John for example would have it enabled so that he can put the download buttons etc on the pages.
It all comes down to Drupal's permissions and filters.
