Dropbox plus Chrome Portable equals High CPU Usage

So I started an experiment . . . I am trying to use as many portable apps and as few installed apps on my Win7-64 as possible with all of these portable apps residing in dropbox. That way all of these apps are in the exact same state regardless of which computer I open them up on.

I have run into a problem that I wonder if others have seen or found any solution for. Chrome Portable residing in a desktop installation of Dropbox do not seem to get along well. My Dropbox CPU usage often shoots up as high as 50% and often remains for long periods between 30-50%. Are there anyways to avoid this? Any ideas?

I love the idea of keeping as many of my apps in Dropbox as possible.
