[Closed] GIMP: 2.8.2 still getting the unknown file type error

Hi, still getting the errors when trying to use GIMP. Tried downloading and reloading it twice and the other fixes for it as previously recommended, but no go. The previous GIMP worked fine.

My computer is a HP Compaq with XP Pro SP3 and Trend Micro Officescan as the virus checker.

Maybe I'm not getting something pointed at the right place, or Trend Micro is blocking something.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Don.

Local Install

Could you please try a local install of GIMP 2.8.2, just temporarily, to see if it is some incompatibility with your computer?

Local install

Downloaded and tried, same result. Looks like Officescan might be the culprit! Will try my PortableApps GIMP on another computer tonight that doesn't use Officescan and see how that works.

Thanks for helping out!

Don.

Good to Know

Sounds like something you should make the Officescan folks aware of, since it is interfering with a popular and clean open source app like GIMP.

Different errors now.

Now I'm getting these two messages on this computer after GIMP worked ok on two other computers.

1) GIMP message; Plug-in crashed: "file-jpeg.exe"
(G:\PortableApps\GIMPPortable\App\gimp\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\file-jpeg.exe)

The dying plug-in may have messed up GIMP's internal state. You may want to save your images and restart GIMP to be on the safe side.

2) GIMP message; Opening 'C:\Documents and Settings\DMHEINRI\Desktop\OR14 air flow sensor.jpg' failed:

Procedure 'file-jpeg-load' returned no return values

Fresh Install

Try a fresh install to ensure OfficeScan didn't bork it. Also what A/V does this PC us?

Trend Micro Officescan is causing my problems.

Working ok on another computer, same model, just different A/V. Trend Micro Officescan is the problem for me. I'll use a different photo editor when using this PC and GIMP when on other PC's. Thanks for all the help!

Don.

Report It

If you also report it to Trend Micro, there's a good chance they could fix their error.

Trend Micro

Ok, I'll send them the details.

Thanks for helping out.
