It's a good idea and I'll look into it. I'm not sure how well it would integrate, though, as metro is about big pictures and text whereas a menu is about... well... menu entries (small icon and small text).

there is generally lot of wasted space http://imageshack.us/a/img341/4921/image000aqs.jpg and it take alot of screen space! it could easily be the half in size without losing functionality.
but the guys are working for so long and is not right to ask for things all the time
Not so much free space if you turn back on the option to hide "portable" in the app names.
Also with customized folders coming I assume that the free space on the right will be dependent on the number of folder shortcuts you have created.
have turn the portable names off but the platform is not getting smaller!
something like this would be great
(total pixel economy)

Pixel economy at the cost of a consistent layout and easy to find things in a menu (which by its nature is temporary and only on screen when you interact with it) is not a good trade off. And it's actually the opposite of what Windows Metro style is all about. If it were something that were always up with other things like an audio player that would make sense and is why we have 3 layouts in CoolPlayer+. It would also be a decent amount of work to do this and require reworking all the themes, so I think our development time would be better spent on other things in the list.

i like that idea, maybe something like this can be implemented in the future
The current format is already very tight in French and Spanish for instance. Translators have sometimes to do miracles to fit in the given space.
