List of non-PA apps installed?

This might not be the right place for this, but...

I've been using PA for several years and have accumulated quite a hodge-podge of portable software on my stick. Some current PA, some really old PA that doesn't show up on the website anymore, and a few non-PA that I just installed alongside so they show up in PAM.

I want to clean house and get rid of old 'stuff' or upgrade it. I'd really like to see if any of the non-PA or off list old PA apps have a new PA version. I don't see an easy way to get PAM to tell me what it found on the stick but can't find a current entry to update to.

Is this info stored somewhere as part of the new 'Update Apps' feature?

Thanks!!

No

There are way too many apps out there which are portable, can be placed on a stick and carried around that it would be too much work for the updater to check them all.

The updater only checks officially released apps. Not even the development test releases from the forums here. Thats the way it is an I reckon thats the way it will be until someone writes an updater for the rest.

Possible

It would be possible to generate such a list using the code in the updater. That may actually be useful for folks with lots of older apps or apps in unsupported locations looking to switch things over.

Thanks!!

John, you're correct in what I'm asking for, just a list of what's on the stick that can't be auto-updated.

Thanks!!

Not that I'm pushing or anything...

Any update on if/how this might be done?

I'd even settle for some non-PAM method I could do myself. Like if someone were to compile a list of all the current 'official' exe file names for all current portable apps, then I could at least compare a exe search on my drive against that list to start an upgrade search of the remainder.

Thanks!!

Coming

It's gonna come at some point. It's been added to the tracker as an upcoming feature now: https://portableapps.com/node/28593 So, I'll add it in as there's time. It's relatively easy. Just trying to figure out where to put it in terms of the interface.

And Done

You'll be happy to know it's complete and will be a part of 11.0 Beta 2 tomorrow Smile

In 11.0 Beta 2 and later

You'll be happy to see this is in 11.0 Beta 2 and later. Just click Help About and select the Apps tab. It will list all your PAF apps alphabetically first with version number and directory within the PortableApps directory followed by all your non-PAF apps alphabetically with relative path to exe within the PortableApps directory.

Useful for some, but not what was requested:

The new [non-]PAF report feature is nice for developers who want to see what programs they've placed in their PortableApps folder but haven't yet put into PortableApps.com Format, but it's not what was actually requested here. As illustrated by this quote

shookmon I don't see an easy way to get PAM to tell me what it found on the stick but can't find a current entry to update to.

what the shookmon wants is a report like that, but that will tell him which apps he has which the PortableApps Updater will not find updates for (e.g. non-PAF Apps, and DevTests), so that he can go looking for updates for them manually.

Note: While some of us find the recently added feature useful, there are probably more which would find the requested feature more useful.

IMHO, If we took the current report and adjusted it slightly, it would be sufficient. Something like this:

Official Applications:
----------------------
{LIST OF OFFICIAL APPS}
Maybe this list can be generated by comparing apps in PAF format against update.ini?

Non-Official Applications in PortableApps.com Format:
----------------------------------------------------
The other result of the comparison above?

Applications not in PortableApps.com Format:
-------------------------------------------
List as currently

Half, Testing

It's half of what he wanted, as the PA.c Updater won't find updates for non-PAF apps. Meaning it's useful to non-devs looking to get all their apps into an update-able format as opposed to zip files. The other half that he wanted, PAF apps that aren't in the updater database, is not included as I hadn't noted that part of the request and hadn't noted it on the coming features page. Sadly, no one tested or reported in on this disparity during the beta, otherwise updates could have been made then.

It will require an update to the updater to properly parse that information out as the menu itself (that generates this report) doesn't know what is in the updater database and what is not.

Sorry; Add to Upcoming Features? (and id attributes):

Sorry about not getting this report in while v11 was still in Beta Testing, but you're right that it's helpful for more than just Developers, so you've added one feature, and this is just a request for another feature which is dependent on the other feature you added, so if you plan on adding this one too (which I think would be a good idea), then you can add it to the Upcoming Features list.

BTW: Can you add id attributes to the headings of the lists on the PortableApps.com Platform Bug Report and Feature Tracker page so we can link straight to them?

Sorry to be a nudge...

But I looked through the list of upcoming stuff and I don't see this listed.

Did the 2nd part of my request make it there and I don't see it, or do I need to somehow start a fresh request for this part?

Thanks for a great product!!!!
