... there were some ugly persons spamming PortableApps.com.

The content is remomed now and the used accounts are locked.

We are trying to stop such activities as soon as possible.

I'd be willing to have you guys go back to captcha if you need to while you clear this up.

I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.

We use Captcha on account creations. These are manual spammers. They pay people like 10 cents per hour to manually do captchas and spam to get by automated filters. There's a bit of a bug in the spam catcher on the site at the moment. It's being worked on.

With the way it is going, it may be worth considering closing new forum accounts and instead show something like "We're sorry, account creation is temporarily closed due to an influx of spammers, please try again later" until you can get the spam net running as it should.

All depends on how much time you are wasting manually controlling the spam as opposed to the time needed to get the spam catcher back up to full functionality.

you can ask questions that involve thinking and searching for user id creating . the question database could contain 100 or so questions and displays any 1 by random

I dont know why it has to be very hard for me.I am just a simple man with simple desire: WORLD DOMINATION

While I like the idea of anything that could potentially lower the number of bots registering and/or posting, unfortunately this solution is unable to help with the bigger problem. Namely: humans being paid to defeat captchas.

These are human beings in third world countries paid to solve captchas. There is no solid workaround for it other than heuristics (Mollom) and manual moderation.

Wink
