ftp server

Do you know any open source ftp server?

I would like to see something like hfs - http://www.rejetto.com/hfs/, which is a very good portable webserver.

For that

For that there is FileZilla Portable or the FireFTP Extension for Portable Firefox.

Filezilla has an FTP server,

Filezilla has an FTP server, click on the link above, then the link to the apps homepage.
Also, in case you weren't aware, Serv-U is free for personal use. It should do what you need it to for a portable server.

There's FileZilla Server. I

There's FileZilla Server. I must warn you, though, any server software will likely need to be run as a service, or at least under an admin account. This requires admin rights. There is no way around this.

XAMPP

XAMPP or XAMPP Lite. They're both portable and both work with the PortableApps.com Menu with a little connector. You'll need to run FileZilla Server as a Service which requires admin rights, though.

I'm not 100% sure but I

I'm not 100% sure but I believe Serv-U can be run from a non-admin account.

Well, you need to change

Well, you need to change firewall settings. And only admins can change windows firewall settings. It also needs to open a listen port of course. Dunno if this works without admin.

HFS

I think the original poster suggested HFS as a HTTP File Server, not FTP server. Big difference. HFS can serve/host a website as well as playing files such as music and pictures in web based/interface player(s).
I played with HFS, and found it to be very nice, with huge potential.
On top of that, it has a built-in tool called "Dynamic DNS Updater", so you don't need a static IP address or even pay for DNS registration.
Nice, indeed!
