Today I let 2.0.0.1 download and install, but the install never completed and left me with a non-functioning PortableFirefox again. Had to reinstall to get it working again. If updates aren't going to work, can they just be disabled by default in future versions? Thanks!

It worked for me when I just tried it on an install of Firefox Portable.
But now it looks like Mozilla just pulled the auto-updater. Even on my local install checking for updates suddenly says none available. Maybe something's up with it.

I got the same result with a base install.
Could it have been a free space issue? I have about 29MB available on my USB Key.
I moved the folder from my USB Key to my HD and then attempted the update again, and it was successful this time.
Anyone know how much free space is needed for an upgrade?
There's a bug in Firefox's (actually, all Mozilla apps) update process where it doesn't check if you have free space. It'll just break your install if you don't. You need at least 40mb free to be safe.

My browser has stopped working, so I have to use some other browser.
Can I reinstall and will I lose my bookmarks
If I reinstall do I have to reinstall the whole suite.
Will that mess with the Thunderbird mail data and settings.
I am in a real mess over this now...
The issue was, there was not enough space on the drive and Firefox can't work that out itself.
Download Firefox Portable again and install it via the menu. However, I doubt reinstalling it will do any good. Open up your profile, copy bookmarks.html to another folder, delete the profile folder, run FFP, close FFP and copy your bookmarks back.

I am working again. I copied my data directory to the C:\ drive.
deleted the ProtableFirefox directory
re-installed the whole thing
copied my data directory back over the new one
and I am up and running again.

This may not be much of a suggestion but it may help some people.
I have aworking copy of all of my "portableapps" in a directory on my hard drive. It is a great way to show people what I am useing.
This is where I do all of my updates. I then copy over the new directory to my USB. Why because the updates seem to be faster. I all so can do all of my tweaking with out haveing to worry about how much space or how many times I may have written to my USB.
I must admit that I do not update often. I usually wait for John's offical releaese. The only thing I do my self is Clamwin. That is only a simple cut and paste. But even this is replaced when a newer offical is released.

If Firefox Portable corrupts itself due to a botched update, you can free up space and then reinstall it over itself without losing any data and it'll work again in most instanced. Same applies to a botched update on the local install.
Like your hard drive, you need to manage the amount of free space on your portable device yourself. Most applications don't seem to check whether there is enough free space on the media they are running from these days. It's not something that can be fixed in a portable launcher either... it's something inherent to software design as storage sizes have increased. People simply have gotten lazy and stopped checking.

When I restarted PFF it installed the update but never actually openened.
After 5-10 min I simply started PFF again. It then checked for add-ons compatibility and opened.
What I have noticed now is that when you click on a menu item the menu does not drop down until you actually move the mouse down or user the key. The same is true for the rss feeds on the bookmarks toolbar.
I did not notice any other issues.
The issue persist even after a reboot.
It's not a train smash, but I thought I'll list it in case someone else gets the same problem.

If you've been forced to reinstall portable Firefox because of this issue make sure when you reinstall you uncheck the "Auto update Firefox" option under tools> options> advanced> update.
This may be pretty obvious, but if you spend an hour updating your new install with all your bookmarks, but forget the auto update option your going to lose it all again when it Firefox updates itself.
Just tried these 2 Jan 2007. Items would start after update but then die. The License screen would come up for 2.0, but die just after that. I re-installed from backups and turned off auto update, till somebody figures this out.
