I'd like to make use of the portable version of LO. Problem is, it's slow to the point of unusable on a standard USB stick. If I loaded it onto a high speed CF card (for example), would performance be greatly improved?

You simply need to use a better USB stick. It is usable on most average retail flash drives. On no-name brands, it won't work. On large cheap drives, it likely won't work. Remember, bigger = slower unless there is a commensurate boost in component quality/speed and price.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Thanks for the feedback, John. Are you in a position to be able to recommend some sticks that will work? Or are there any specs I need to look for when shopping around?
PS Thanks for making so many of these apps available this way. It's nice to be able to carry them from machine to machine rather than install/uninstall every time.
