Do they store earlier versions?

Hello,

I was wondering if PortableApps stored early version.

For example I go to the "Get Apps" tabs and I scroll down to Skype. When I get on the Skype app page its usually the latest version. (Thanks)

But is there a way for me within that page to see and download an earlier version, portable of course.

Sometimes its really needed.

Best regards,

Yes

Yes, all our files are stored on SourceForge.net. You can find the directory of all our apps at the link below. Just look for the one you're looking for, click on it to enter its folder, and find the version you want.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/

Just a note here, but you're always advised to stay with he latest version of each software to keep up with security patches. This is especially true for web browsers.

Correction

Happy to be corrected, but I believe there are two exceptions to this:

1. Not all apps are hosted on SourceForge - some are hosted on the portableapps.com domain (e.g. Xnview), and older versions of these are not guaranteed to be available. Some are also hosted by the publisher themselves, e.g. TeamViewer.

2. Some of the PAF installers are online installers - e.g. uTorrent, Chrome, Skype. These download the latest version of the program from the publisher when you install them, so you won't be able to obtain older versions with these. Unless you save a copy of the downloaded full installer that the PAF downloader uses when you run it - though the platform does not support this as yet (the saving of the installers to anywhere but the system temp folder - I think it is slated to be in an upcoming release), you would need to dig it out of your temp folder before it is deleted (i.e. before it finishes installing).

You are correct in both

You are correct in both cases. However, for the online installers, if you already have the file downloaded (say chrome_installer.exe), you can place that file in the same folder and the online installer will use that instead of downloading a new copy.

I believe the file just needs to have the same name as the one that would be downloaded. If you find older versions of freeware apps online, this will enable you to keep archives of it.

It's on the PortableApps Domain

The reason why you won't find Skype on SourceForge is that it is one of the apps hosted on the PortableApps domain.

This is the current download link:
http://download.portableapps.com/portableapps/skypeportable/SkypePortabl...

If you substitute the version number in that link with an older version number, it may still exist. Note however that the 'online' signifies it is one of the installers that downloads the actual installation files when you run it - which would mean that you would need to have an older copy of the full Skype installation files, as noted by gluxon above.
