Encrypted email storage?

Hi!

I was wondering whether there is an extension to (Portable) Thunderbird that allows to STORE all the emails encrypted. I just don't feel well when I think that I might just leave all my emails on a USB stick somewhere so that some random person can read everything I've ever written and received.
I know that there is On-the-fly encryption like TrueCrypt, but all those solutions require administrator rights - which is bad when I go to public computers with my USB stick.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Arno

You can also get it with GPG and Enigmail preconfigured to encrypt and sign your email.

That is not what I want

That is not what I want though. Sure it is nice to send and receive emails encrypted. But what I want is to STORE them encrypted LOCALLY on my computer. So what I want, is that my local Thunderbird profile with the emails in it is encrypted.
Quite honestly, it would be much worse for me if someone found my USB stick that I lost someplace with ALL my emails on it than someone intercepting a single email that I send to some random guy.

GPG doesn't hide your mail, it actually encrypts it. If someone opens your mailstores, they'll see gibberish.

Encyrption Solution

Try out True Crypr (http://www.truecrypt.org/). It's a small device driver, which allows you to map an encrpted file as an single windows drive. The driver can also be placed on the stick, so you are completely independant of local installations.

I've created such a file, mapped it and did my whole thunderbird installation on it; now all my e-mail traffic is encyrypted within this file on the usb stick.

One nice side effect is, that you can easily backup your mail database with simply copying the encrypted file.

Hope this helps,

Tom

But,

please remember that you need admin rights for truecrypt.
