Just setting up a new SSD drive with PortableApps.
Ran the updater option to check app updates. Everything honky dorky.
Came to close PA (as I'm using Portable Start Menu as my PA launcher - not any more!) and PA platform kept coming up with the following error prompt:
"Unable to write to:
PortableApps\PortableApps.com\Data\PortableAppsMenu.ini"
Took me a while to figure out the cause. I have TrustPort USB Antivirus installed on the SSD I'm using and it's this guy that stops the .ini write. Bit of a PITA because each time you ALT+TAB away from PA menu, you get another one of these error prompts come up. I had eight just ALT-Tabbing between this note and the error screen(s!) just to write this.
PA will eventually close if you click OK on the error screens, but there's no set number of times that you do this. On one occasion it was closing two error screens, another time it was fifteen.
The answer is probably not to use TrustPort - but I like it. Thought I would flag this up just in case any one else is using TrustPort.

The answer is to tell the anti-virus software that this particular file/action is OK and to allow it.

@J Neutron - thanks for the heads-up. Found the relevant option in TrustPort and PortableApps no longer comes up with error. Perfect!

To be future-proof, I'd say whitelist that PortableApps\Data directory (or .ini files in that directory if it lets you be that specific) as we'll be adding a couple in 12.0 and 13.0.
Is it setup so that only an active window can write to the drive? That could be a bit too restrictive for some apps that can write in the background. Even apps like Firefox will do background writes as some webpages update through AJAX and some extensions background update. They may not error, though, so you could be unaware that things are amiss.

TrustPort USB does allow you to 'whitelist' down to folder or file level. I just put the Data\PortableAppsMenu.ini in the excluded objects list and that did the trick. Will take it up to folder level when 12.0 comes along.
I'll keep my eyes open for anything else TrustPort may be up to, but looks fine for and PortableApps is working fine.

I have done exactly that - whitelisted the PA folder. There were a couple of other apps that needed write capability within that folder, so easiest to keep it at that higher level.
PA12B1 looks cool. The text in the PA logo just above the 'close' and 'exit' buttons looks like it may need a revamp though just to keep it as clear as the other menu fonts do. Nice job.

The logo in the lower right was done a bit last minute. We need to spend time on a hand pixel-tuned version for display that small. But I wanted to be sure and switch to the more subtle branding for beta 1.
