I'd really want this. Even if I install it on drive D, it will download the blockchain for C. I can't believe such an essential (or hyped) program can still work only on C in 2013.
Here's a good recent article on the subject if you are still skeptical: http://www.sovereignlife.com/moneyrevolution.html
I need the original client, don't really trust/want to mess around with the others.

Yes, I've seen those comments but that thread is generally about -any- bitcoin clients and I would like to see the -original- bitcoin Qt client made portable.
Here (https://portableapps.com/node/32240#comment-195204) his main problem seems to be that the software simply uses too much space? Just get a 8 GB USB stick (very cheap nowadays) and you will be fine with the block chain for many years and be able to install lots of additional apps as well.
A good question, too: https://portableapps.com/node/35955#comment-203354
Just had to open this thread for Google and see how it evolves over time. Sorry.
Ps. Now you can even buy a WordPress blog with bitcoin: http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2012/11/15/pay-another-way-bitcoin/
I have a workaround for this.
Create a shortcut for bitcoin-qt.exe and add argument:
"[path]\bitcoin-qt.exe" -datadir=.
But as you stated earlier, the shortcut is not relative path. Not cool. Any better idea?
