The installer gives the following error message:

The installer was unable to download Google Chrome (Stable). The installation of the portable app will be incomplete without it. Please try installing again. (ERROR: SendRequest Error)

Silent Update

Google is having some major issues with their download servers and they slipped a silent update into the stable version of Google Chrome's downloader for some reason. I'm investigating.

Affecting Local Installs, Too

I am unable to install local Chrome using the official Chrome installer now. After having connection issues (see above) it is now saying that the file downloaded is invalid. Same issue the installer will now have. And it affects all 3 channels.

Somebody at Google messed up something major in the Chrome download network.

Google Issues Resolved

Google seems to have resolved the issues in their download servers this afternoon. All channels are working again.

Error Reoccurring

In the latest version (downloaded 10 Jan. 2012), I get the following:

The installer was unable to download Google Chrome (Stable). The installation of the portable app will be incomplete without it. Please try installing again. (ERROR: File Not Found (404))

Thanks.

Same Error - Still Occuring

I am also getting this message.

"The installer was unable to download Google Chrome (Stable). The installation of the portable app will be incomplete without it. Please try installing again. (ERROR: File Not Found (404))"

Is there a problem with the target in the install program? Is there a way I can use the files from google's site to install chrome portable through the portableapps platform?

New Issue

This isn't the same issue reported above when Google download servers were entirely down for several hours.

This is new as a new stable version was just released (and is being packaged now). Google is likely pulling old versions as soon as new ones come out now. 24.0 was just released within the last hour. So they pulled the 23.0 binaries at the same time. Google Chrome Portable 24.0 has already been built and uploaded, we're just waiting for it to hit the download mirrors.

Different

That's a totally different issue from what is being discussed here. That means you are blocked from downloading. Either by a corporate/university firewall or by a software firewall installed locally (McAfee, etc).
