Thanks for your work on this, Matt. And welcome to the PortableApps.com Team! You're now on the team page and have a dev blog you can use to post info on stuff you're working on, etc.

The official release is using MPC-HC's built-in portable mode of using an INI instead of the registry key and the AppID has been switched to MPC-HCPortable from MPCHCPortable to be consistent with what the publisher uses as the abbreviation. As such, any users of the dev test will need to upgrade manually. The launcher.ini has been changed appropriately.

Also, of note to most PAL users, I added in custom code to properly handle the PortableApps.com Documents, Pictures, Videos and Music variables if they don't exist or are set improperly, something PAL doesn't yet do on its own. This can be useful for some other apps as well.

Thanks John, I never thought I'd see the day. I'll look at the custom code and changes so that when the next release comes around, I can build it properly.

Nice to see this app here! Although, the version is wrong, it's 1.6.5 and not 1.65.

I'll contact the MPC-HC Team to add a link to the PAL release.

That was just me borking the release announcement. It's been fixed. Smile

How does this compare with VLC? If VLC has codecs for all legitimate file types, what does MPC-HC bring new to the table?

Some people prefer one over the other, so we made both available. As they're both free and relatively lightweight, it's also easy for folks to install both and see the difference in quality and compatibility for themselves.

Doubtful. The PA.c Platform 12.0 Beta does, though.

Are we able to install plugins on MPC-HC Portable? Like if we extract the plugins from the K-Lite MEGA Codec Pack and put it on the MPC-HC root, will there be any registry changes in the local machine?

If you can extract them into the MPC-HC directory on a local install, you can extract them into the MPC-HCPortable\App\MPC-HC directory in a portable install. As for registry entries, it would depend on the plugin. Try it and see.
