I'm using FFportable on a harddisk (Vista / WinXP). After updating v17.0.1 to 18.0 I found that starting FF is slower and tabs open often reluctantly. Also with version 18.0.1
It somtimes lasts 20-30 seconds until a website has openened.
However, the issue is not reproducible, means it also happens that websites are opend in a normal speed.
Also trying it in safe mode without addons the issue exists.
I tried to start it from a SD-Card but it became not better....
Also trying the FF on different PC (Notebook with XP) the problem persists.
Fortunately I archived different Versions of FFportable, so I can test the behaviour of different Versions.
At the moment I'm using V 17.0.1 again, as it seems to be the best in speed and handling...
Has anybody an idea what I can still try, or has somebody a hint for adjustments...
Thanks a lot for your help,
Regard
Wolfgang
Have you tried turning history off ? speeded it up for me !
Turning off history definitely improved FF's speed for me! I was just about ready to dump FF, because of how slow it was becoming.
Any issue causing over 5 seconds to load a page is most likely not the web browser's fault. Have you tried a different connection? Possibly at the library, work, or a friend's house.
Could it be something like an add-on that misbehaves with FF18?
I use Firefox Portable as my main browser and I haven't had this slowdown/problem.
ps: I know Firefox changed (improved) how it deals with proxy connections. katermerlin, are you connecting through a proxie?
Although, wouldn't a proxy problem just result in a inability to connect at all?
If the proxy server is laggy, that explains the issue. Remember that proxy servers will slow down your connection at least 2x. And that's with a very high quality one.
I think I solved the issue due to the "Proxy" - contributions.
The standard-setting of th proxy seems to be "Use proxy settings of the system".... This clickbox was marked. As I do not use any proxy, I marked "No proxy"... And suddenly FF runs fast!!!
Strangely enough the odd setting of the proxy has no effect in FF17.0.1 ...
Thanks a lot to all who tried to help me.

Wolfgang
