The reason KeePass 2.x is not

The reason KeePass 2.x is not offered here is that it requires the .NET Framework, and PortableApps does not (yet) officially release .NET apps.

Different App

It's also essentially a different app as it doesn't even support the same password database format.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

The Developer's Portable Vesion Works (on .NET computers)

If you download the .ZIP package from the KeePass site and unpack it to a subdirectory in your PortableApps directory, PortableApps will recognize it (you may need to "Refresh App Icons").

I keep both on my Portable Apps drive and run KeePass2 with a trigger to autoexport a copy of the database in KeePass1 format so the data will be available to KP1 if I don't have access to a .NET machine.

If the government wants us to respect the law, it should set a better example.

Thanks SteveMB

Been wanting to move to KeePass Pro since getting MiniKeePass working on my iPad and iPhone to be able to synchronise databases.

Your two tips work well for me, thanks again for sharing.

Portable KeePass2 on .net computers

Just a short question, as I am not a developer...
Would not using the .net installation on a possibly compromised computer (e.g. internet cafe) endanger the security of the password for KeePass, or even the database content?

Thanks for comments!
Best regards
Dice

.NET Or No .NET, That's A Potential Issue

An untrusted machine could always have a keylogger (I use the onscreen keyboard plugin on my portable version to minimize the risk, but there's no way to completely eliminate it if you use a machine somebody else controls.

My alternate strategy is using Keepass2Android on my phone and manually copying the passwords -- for that reason, I tend to use slightly less random passwords of "codeword" style (zZzZzdcvcvc - five uppercase alternating consonants and vowels, a digit, five lowercase alternating consonants and vowels), which I find much easier to accurately sight-transcribe than true random passwords. (For the *really* important passwords, I stick to more random forms, and don't use those on untrusted machines at all.)

If the government wants us to respect the law, it should set a better example.

Oddly enough, it worked

@Dice I just named my subfolder "KeepassProPortable", refreshed the App Icons, and Bam.. There it was. Was able to import my Lastpass Passwords into it as well.

Thanks for the heads up, never thought it would work.
