I've just come across this and found it fits my needs better than other TE's, any chance this could be added?

I didn't know there were guidelines for requests.
SynWrite is great app and seems more stable than my previous PSPad.
I would use NotePad++ but it seems to take a while to start.
To make SynWrite Portable requires adding an a file called 'Portable.ini' in the app directory.
There are 3 links for d/l Installer, RAR and a beta version. I d/l the RAR beta v4.7.680 and it seems stable to me. It has caused a little mess with the registry though regarding WinExp's R-click 'New' menu. I've lost the New Text Document option. Though to get it back I'm going to copy my Vista Reg entry to my laptop. I did this for adding New RTF Document and it worked. I got around it by using the Open With... command. Incidentally, I don't suppose anyone would know why even though you browse to an app it doesn't appear in the list of 'Other Programs' to choose from? This has happened on occasions on Vista/Win7 with a few different apps.
PSPad is definitely better with regard to file associations. But this will be sorted if this became an official app and the PAMenu adds inbuilt associations.

Not sure what you mean. The local and portable copies both start in about 1 second from a cold start for me. Less once they've been run once.

Really? I have an Acer S3 core i5 4GB RAM and it still takes a few seconds. Otherwise I'd use that. It puts me off when apps take a while to start. VLC is my worst one takes around 30-60 seconds!
Notepad++ took longer on my Acer 5920, but is definitely faster now.

What kind of flash drive are you running it off? Oh, and what antivirus are you running?

I know AVG slows apps down quite a bit in general. And I know we altered the settings on VLC Portable with the AppCompactor to compress fewer files. This makes the app bigger but speeds up antiviruses that have MAJOR speed problems with UPX compressed files like AVG. Offhand, AVG is the only antivirus that does have this issue this badly (it would take over a minute to launch VLC Portable on an AVG system previously). Try disabling AVG (just temporarily, after you've scanned the apps) and then launch them to see the speed difference.

I noticed VLC started a GREAT DEAL quicker when AVG was disabled. GIMP and LibreOffice seemed the same Notepad++ was also much quicker.
Thanks for the info. Trouble is I am used to AVG. I attempted to switch to avira a while ago due to being much less resource hungry and quicker according to reviews, but couldn't get on with it's GUI. I found it too 'messy'.
Still I'll give Notepad++ another go, but if there's any chance of someone adding SynWrite I'd be interested.

... but I'll be honest and I've tried both of those before. I actually gave them up for MS Security Essentials. It interferes with nothing and it's pretty well integrated. Plus, it's pretty small and free. Now, let's get back to talking about Synwrite vs. Notepad++.

Just been checking Notepad++ and the Customise Toolbar Plugin keeps resetting to default, and not quite customisable as SynWrite. I'll keep at it for a bit in case I've missed something though.
Also, there's no built in spellcheck. Having to manually d/l, install and update Aspell is a deterrent.

Well, that was a waste of time! There's no difference in speed of first opening of VLC or Notepad++. Obviously it's not just AVG that has that problem then.
Been playing with Np++ and find SynWrite easier to configure. So Gonna stick with that. One thing I like about SW is that the menu and toolbars are customisable, everything can be hidden. Easier to find the menu commands you use if there's only what you need.

i use microsoft security essentials and i notice no slowdown in app boot times but it does take longer when scanning though
so try it again but make sure u r not scanning or updating the definitions
also acer not the best computer brand
i have an acer netbook and it likes to keep restarting randomly also i have a acer laptop and it makes funny fan sounds
i would try it on a dell, hp or another computer company not the acer
it should speed up
also Portable apps should be installed on a usb not generally on a hd but i have installed it on a hard drive in the past and i have noticed the slowdown
so try it on a usb
it should be somewhat faster also when looking for a usb to buy look for a usb 3.0 or 2.0 speed compatible usb but LOOK at THE Read Write speeds

Portable apps are fine to put on a fixed HDD, and for some people such as myself that is actually desirable for one reason, ease of backup.
Despite there being 3rd party tools specifically for backing up passwords/favourites etc from various web browsers I have found them to be inconsistent, often not saving everything.
This is where portable apps excel, saving everything in a single location.
Upon a reinstall of an operating system they are considerably easier to return to a previous known state.
If at first you do not succeed, use more sticky tape.
