PortableApps.com Platform update question

so if i use PortableApps.com Platform to update for example my opera
will i lose all settings like sites on which im logged in ?
or skin i selected or options in opera i turned on or off ?

or program will just update and all settings and modifications i made will still be there ?

and will that work for chrome and firefox too ?

or skype ?

so after skype updates via PortableApps.com Platform i will need to log in again and again change options to my needs or will it all be like before update ?

When a portable app updates,

When a portable app updates, it should just update the program itself since most properly-made apps store settings in the Data folder, which is untouched during a normal upgrade. This applies to all of the official apps, including Opera and Skype. Hope that helps!

I say "should" because the

I say "should" because the vast majority of the time, the updates occur properly. It is rare, but possible, that it won't. So sorry if that put you off from updating, but it is worth it to update, especially through the platform.

well all apps works for me

well all apps works for me anyway
i just seen some of them can be updated
so it would be like updating them just to keep them updated
and not to get new stuff in my case

so possibility of losing my settings is not worth and update

but i found out it updates only apps that in \Portable Apps Platform\PortableApps and not on entire drive

so i just copy to that folder app i wanna update and after update i check if all my settings are still there than just move it back to previous folder

so i dont have problem now and everything just works for me

so thank You for help Smile

It Will

App updates do not affect your app's settings (bookmarks, options, etc). They're designed not to touch that. As for what the app does to your settings after you update, that's up to the app. Occasionally, an app will break compatibility. As an example, gPodder did this with their 2.0 release. We warned users via a popup that their old data was incompatible and backed it up on upgrade.

Of course, technology being what it is, a physical or logical error on a USB or internal drive can easily wipe out something critical. The same applies to local apps. So, you should always back up your data. The platform includes an easy to use way of doing that built right in.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

if im thinking good u are the

if im thinking good u are the chosen one who made that portable platform ?

well i got few question about PAP cause i miss there some features that should be there by default cause it feels so obvious and native in that kind of applications

1st
when right click an program there should be check for updates option

so if i just want to update 1 app and i dont care about rest i dont wait for platform to check other program and i just check the app i care

but well i know that if it find updates for few programs i still can choose which to update and which dont

it would be better if if there would be check for updates button placed in lower right part of window under help or under search and when u click it window with list of all apps pop up and from that list u check or uncheck apps u want to check updates for

2nd
i think if there are 3 type of apps display list"favorite, last used, all apps" than there could be just small tabs for that on top of the window or at the bottom

3rd
why there is no option to choose in which folder i got all apps
or choose separately direction for each app

well for example i got all my portable apps in C:\Programs and now to keep them all up to date i would need to move all of them to C:\Programs\Portable Apps Platform\PortableApps

which would ruin some of my paths settings like for sounds i placed in opera folder or for sounds for skype

and the only way around i can think of is to copy to \Portable Apps Platform\PortableApps folder app which i wanna update than update it and than move it back to original folder

hope You get what i mean

here is a pic of how it could look like with my ideas
