Chrome Portable not shutting down?

Here is the sequence of events: Run (latest version) of Google Chrome. Exit the program. Run Ccleaner. A message pops up saying that Google Chrome needs to be closed. Open a copy of Task Manager. This shows two tasks still running: chrome.exe and GoogleChromePortable.exe.

Why would these tasks still be running after Chrome is shut down? I don't see similar behavior when running Mozilla Firefox Portable. Also, I don't remember having this problem with older versions of Google Chrome.

Chrome

Chrome itself is still running some sort of background task. The portable launcher won't shut down until the app does.

some sort of background task?

Since this is at worst, a minor inconvenience, it is probably not worth spending any time on but if there were a more detailed explanation it would be interesting. I have essentially the same extensions running in Chrome as I have in FireFox which does not show the same behavior. Also, this behavior only started recently with Chrome. Anyone have any ideas?

Chrome and Firefox are very

Chrome and Firefox are very different applications, regardless of what extensions you have installed in either of them.

Chrome runs a separate process for each tab, plus some extra processes for certain background tasks, where Firefox runs most things from just the one process.

One way to (hopefully) stop this happening in Chrome is to open Settings->Show Advanced Settings then scroll to the very bottom and deselect the checkbox for "Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed".

Think I found it

I tried the " deselect the checkbox for "Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed" " trick but that didn't work. Then I remembered I had enabled a "cloud printer", i.e. print to a printer connected to another machine I use. I disabled this and chrome.exe now goes away from Task Manager when Chrome exits.
