It might be trouble with the compression. I compressed it using the PortableApps.com AppCompactor, LZMA.
Do you know any specific location that this occurs? Maybe someone can confirm it? Or maybe its just a glitch in windows 7.
Thanks for reporting it.
I installed 0 A.D. Alpha 2 Portable Development Test 1 on my flash drive and tried to run it on my Windows 7 (64 bit) system. The splash screen appeared but after it went away there was a short delay and then Windows reported "pyrogenesis.exe has stopped working"
Starts fine for me on XP sp3, now I know it works I will try later tonight on my Windows 7 box.
Edit: Can verify that there is a problem on Win 7. I get the same error regarding pyrogenesis.exe while attempting to run on Win 7 64bit.
It might be of note that on the official site the game supports the following OS's:
thanks winterblood (nice username). I'll update the topic.
Just tried launching on Windows 7 Pro. No luck.
Tried running as administrator and didn't launch either.
On both occasions I get a splash and the 0AD Portable process happening but the game doesn't launch.
Receive a pyrogenesis .exe has stopped working message when running as administrator.
Hope that helps
PortableApps.com Advocate
it does help.
I wonder why those guys who make 0 A.D. aren't trying to make it work on Win7?
Maybe they don't have access to a Windows 7 machine to test it on. I'm sure it's not a conscious choice ("we absolutely refuse to support Windows 7"). Now Vista on the other hand...
/me (Vista Ultimate x64) also isn't able to run 0AD (-Portable).
I just see the splash screen and then nothing more, also ProcExp proves that "pyrogenesis.exe" just quits immediatly after being launched, though there is no error message.
So this might be related to 64 bit Windows rather than Windows 7.
Also, I don't know of any big differences between Vista and 7, but there are certainly major ones between 32bit and 64 bit Windows.

Ahoy!
now there is an alpha 4, I would love to see this one portable!
Thanks!

downloading now...
You might notice an error window(s) keeps popping up in this version. I think those were added just to debug the app. It's not a portable app issue.
Ahoy,
there's an Alpha 5 Release
including a new civ, improved AI, etc.
I would really love to see this portable

Thanks for your great work
I'll update when I can.
glad I survived the rapture.
I know you're probably busy, but Alpha 6 is out.
The site also says Alpha 7 will be out in a week or so, may just be worth waiting.
I think I'll wait for Alpha 7 to come out though, because its a pretty hefty app, and Alpha 7 will hopefully be released soon. If I miss it though, just reply with the download link.
And thanks for telling me.
On second thought, I decided to update it. It's a monster download, but I wanted to upgrade it to PAL, and get it over with.
And if anyone is willing to try this new version in Windows 7, please report back.
I just downloaded and installed the new Alpha 6. When I tried to run it, I was watching the task manager, and it loads partially, then disappears. My computer specs are as follows:
OS: Windows 7 SP1 32-bit
RAM: 3GB
HDD: 250GB
Graphics: Integrated
Sound: Integrated
Form Factor: Laptop
Hope this helps.
Thank you.
I've posted a different version of 0 A.D. for testing on Windows 7 (uncompressed). Try and see if that works for you.
[EDIT] Finally after searching the 0 A.D. forums forever, it does seem as though 0 A.D. is supposed to work on Windows 7, even though others have encountered problems.
See the topic.
The uncompressed version runs on my Windows 7 64-bit system.
The normal version fails to display anything and eventually exits.
I've posted a new version, compressed with NRV2E. Try that and see if that will work. (Oddly, it actually turned out to be smaller than with LZMA, the one that hasn't been working.)
The NRV2E version does not work on my Windows 7 64-bit system. The launcher starts but exits within 5 seconds without displaying anything.
I've updated the forum topic with appropriate information.
Same laptop setup as before. The uncompressed version worked perfectly fine when I installed and ran it, but the new NRV2E compressed one pulled the same "show up in task manager then disappear" trick that the original LZMA compressed version did. I hate to say it, but compression may not be Windows 7's best friend.
Can someone post a list of the executables/DLLs of 0 A.D.? I know of some files that should not be compressed.
Previously known as kAlug.
Here is a list of the *.exe and *.dll files from the uncompressed version:

Note that it's about a 200 MB increase in size from Alpha 6, so be sure you have enough space!
And it wouldn't hurt for one more tester on Windows 7 to try it out.
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. All right.
Previously known as kAlug.
thank you.
Same config as before. Works perfectly fine, actually a little smoother than the last 2 versions.
thank you for your feedback.
Some weeks ago, alpha 8 has been released. It would be nice if you could update the portable version.
Thanks
"Der Klügere gibt nach, deshalb regieren Dumme die Welt."
a new version alpha 8 is on air,

Just waiting for both files to finish downloading, then I get started on an update.
Alpha 8 is 100 MB larger than alpha 7.
Hi there! A few weeks ago a new alpha was released. Any plans to update soon?
Faith sees the invisible, believes the unbelievable, and receives the impossible.
Took almost 2 hours to upload XD
Excellent! Thanks!
Faith sees the invisible, believes the unbelievable, and receives the impossible.
And the game keeps getting bigger.
0 A.D. Alpha 11 Kronos seems to be out. Huge download though (352MB for installer alone)
Sorry for the delay. I was having trouble with the upload.

0 A.D. Alpha 12 Loucetios
it will be nice when you updated it and it will be released by portable apps offical
See release notes for changes.
Upon download, the package says there's a problem before the installer even starts. I believe it said that the package hash does not match or is corrupt.
Edit: It says the "Installer integrity check has failed" and the problem is with NSIS. I have tried multiple clean downloads, and the error is the same.
I hope you can fix it with the time, alpha12
thanks
The installer I compiled worked fine, and the MD5 matches the version on sourceforge. I also just downloaded it again and ran the installer and it worked fine.
Did you try comparing the MD5 hashes of the installers you downloaded?
Turns out my connection was dropping right at the end of the original downloads when I was doing it on my laptop. Downloaded on my desktop, and it worked fine the first time. Should have probably checked that first. But it works.

That's hard-coded into the game. I'll ask if there's a way they can modify the message for a portable version.
