Smart Diary Suite

Smart Diary Suite Portable Free Edition is the best Portable Journal I've found..

Rednotebook lacks too much functionality & easy of use to be a viable replacement.. its difficult to use its bullet system, and it lacks a useful editing toolbar, and its 2 views are a really outdated & non-intuitive way of working

but its the best of the portableapps journals ive found

but I'd love to see a portableapps journal tool like Smart Diary Suite, with a similar Rich text editor supporting graphics & video, and with an easy bullet & indent system, and easy export functions...

even if Rednotebook could simply support Rich Text editing on the top level and have a useful bullet & formatting text & paragraph toolbar ribbon, and support graphics & other media, with a built-in spell checker, it'd be perfect

Here at portableapps most

Here at portableapps most devs only make apps portable. That means they ensure that they are packaged to comply with the PA.c format specification and deal with traces and user files etc.
In general no one develops new apps. Red Notebook f.i. is developed here. So any feature request should be adressed to them.

If you like any new app made portable, you should suggest one. Wink

This program actually exists,

This program actually exists, the OP didn't include a link though. It's called Smart Diary Suite Free and it can be found here. It has a "portable" version already, but I'm going to assume it's not .paf.exe.

they probably wouldn't already have it in that format

it probably isn't already in paf.exe

this app would probably be awesome here

AS I look

1) "Portable versions are not installed on your computer, instead you simply run them from anywhere you wish. The portable versions are designed to be run from your USB, flash or other removeable media and the only requirement they have is that the folder where you run it from should have write access."

2) "Smart Diary® Suite 4 Free Edition
The free edition lacks some advanced features, but it still has all the basics!" otherwise only 30 day download trial

3) I can not find any license listed in either the page or the software

ya, actually, i tried going

ya, actually, i tried going to portableapps>apps>Install apps & point to the exe file for smart diary suite portable on the USB.. which i had renamed to *.paf.exe or whatever.. it launched the program as a first run, but wasnt added to the list of applications.. moving the file to the Portable Apps own directory didnt help.. I suppose it needs info about category .. is there some PAF executable packer of some sort that we can just select a category, an Icon, and pack it up for use with Portableapps?

Smart Diary Suite Free Portable is limited in obscure functionality people arent likely to use anyway

a full back up is always ready in the form of the *.SD4 file in teh same folder as the exe file, which you can drag to any other install and read.. or export to RTF & convert that to PDF or HTML or whatever as normal.. using a program like Word to replace the separating lines with page breaks, or whatever.. which is the same backup as the Medical version.. Honestly, nothing useful is missing from the free version

I like the program alot.. I'm just saying, redbook cant really compare since its so hard to format things..

redbook you have to enter 2 spaces plus a hyphen plus a space for a 1st-level solid round bullet point

4 spaces plus a hyphen plus a space for a 2nd-level hollow round bullet point

6 spaces plus a hyphen plus a space for a 3rd-level solid square bullet point.. and 8, 10, 12, or whatever for more of these at further levels

then you have to hit enter 3 times just to end the bullets and begin a new line.

its the switching thing that sucks about it. imo..

and it doesnt support Multimedia objects like Smart Diary Suite Free does

anyway, if anyone can make this Smart Diary Suite Free into PAF, that'd be great

Yes, I know it exists. I had found it before I posted. But as the TO requested an app similar to Smart Diary Suite and not the Suite itself or requested features for Rednotebook, I tried to clear up things. Wink

In response to TO

I am the PortableApps Developer, I know that Rednotebook developer has discussed adding rtf format, Other than that he needs to contact the developer of the base app as you know depp we primarily just repackage and not develop

He might want to try Base Developer's site Rednotebook Answers

The launchpad link is

The launchpad link is definitely the better place to go than the sourceforge link I pointed him to.

An the cascading thread display again gets messy when one tries to answer to overlaping posts. Wink

Agreeed

That is why Jendrik change it to the launchpad, and as a by thought I am on that so I generally hit the Portable versions questions...especially when they pertain to our version vs the built in version or the other portable site's version Smile I do know that Jendrik was discussing a new version allowing rtf saves

thanks I'll check it out.. I

thanks I'll check it out..

I thought editing in RTF would be the main feature most needed..

and, just a little thought: Have you ever thought about switching over to PHPBB, a very powerful forum system - makes things a lot easier!

Great Program, thanks alot..
