Just installed OpenOffice. When I try to open any sub-app, I get to the registration screen and check the register box, but the "Next" button remains gray. Only the "Finish" and "Cancel" buttons are active. It does not allow me to register and does not allow me to use the app.
Back and next switch pages and there is no page 4, when your done with page 3 push finish.
I did push finish, but then it closes out the program. Every time I start up OpenOffice it qives me the same three welcome pages, but never opens the program!!!

I dont know what's going on then but Openoffice portable is horribly out of date right now due to an extended period of licensing issues, so you could try using Libreoffice portable (http://libreofficeportable.org) instead, if that works then figuring out why openoffice doesn't isn't a big deal yet. Once PortableApps.com gets permission from Apache to get it up to date again and somebody has time to make a package of it then if that version has this kind of issue it'll need to be dealt with.
Other than that it's probably a problem with your specific computer setup and if you can figure it out (or post enough information about your system for someone here to figure it out) then maybe it can be fixed.

You might want to ask John.
My posts are old and likely no longer relevant.
At the moment, my plate is quite full. I have a 95% finished version of Apache OpenOffice 3.4.1 sitting on my desktop that has none of the issues that the other zip portable version of OpenOffice has, but I can't post it here for review or assistance from others due to the trademarks. And, even after it is done, Apache needs to review it for an unspecified amount of time before it can be released. Unfortunately, Marko no longer has time, so I'm left as the only packager of LibreOffice and OpenOffice (in addition to all the released apps I maintain, running the site, platform, business, etc).
I had to restart development after we finally got a hint of permission. This was after Oracle refusing to give it to us after buying Sun and then abandoning OpenOffice entirely (which is when the LibreOffice fork happened and all the Linux distros abandoned OpenOffice). Once Apache restarted development and before they released it, I personally requested permission at OSCON but was basically told no because they don't like the GPL (the license we use for our portablization bits). So, I wrote it off for good at that point and ditched all work I had done post-OpenOffice 3.2. Last year, it seemed they were finally amenable to it and I started work on it again, but other projects I maintain got in the way.
At this point, the ball is ENTIRELY in my court as I need to finish a review version for Apache. But as I am insanely busy with 20 things just trying to keep things running, all my work on OpenOffice may be for naught as Apache may not even be approve it, and LibreOffice does everything OpenOffice does and more and was a willing and supportive partner from day one, it's been on the back burner. I had planned on finally finishing it up in January, but it's been a rough year health-wise. Rest assured, it'll be done in the near future. At least my end of it.

Thank you John for a clear explanation of the state it is in. I used to be subscribed to that thread before it went silent.
While monetary donations may not be plentiful, I hope you do understand there are people here willing to play with the code and help out. A small request thread could have helped ("Hey, anyone willing to set up launcher code for Apache OpenOffice?").
Plain launcher code without images/trademarks would be enough to compile and run tests. Or an icon-less launcher named e.g. "TestOfficePortable.exe".
More eyes might spot and fix issues easier than just a pair of them.

It's not really the launcher I've been testing. It's based on the current LibreOfficePortable.exe launcher, so it wasn't too bad. It's more the whole build with the multiple languages, having the multi-lingual installer select the right language, portable fonts, removal of optional languages, upgrades from older versions, normal vs all language versions ala LibreOffice Portable, etc... so it has to be the full package to be useful. I have a pretty good handle on it and will likely try and finish it up soon.
