chrome portable, alongside standard install

My official browser at work is Chrome, and I've been using portable Firefox for personal email, etc., but sometimes find sites not as friendly to Firefox.

As I recall, a couple years ago it wasn't possible to run the portable chrome in a second instance while the standard chrome was running. Trying it now, it appears to work--throws no error, and settings, etc. are as expected.

Is it actually acting "portably"--i.e., keeping data separate from the standard install?

thanks!

Not Sure

Honestly, I'm not sure offhand. As a general rule, more sites work with Firefox than Chrome on the desktop. Firefox has a larger marketshare.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

yeah, I actually like Firefox

yeah, I actually like Firefox a bit better to be honest, especially with a plugin called Tab Mix Plus (controls tabs and has a better session manager) that isn't available for Chrome. I see sluggish performance, and sometimes long freezes, on sites with javascript while Chrome cruises through with no problems, so I'm wondering if it will be easier to switch.

Any tips on determining if the browser data is staying in the portable location?

Confirmed

I've found Chrome to be a great browser, much less resource-hungry than FF, at least with the load of extensions I require. And of course faster.

I'm also a big fan of TabMix, but have found Chrome extensions that work just as well for those functions, in fact once you get used to them even better.

The only time I need to fire up FF anymore is using a pre-13 portable setup for my old TiddlyWiki's.

So thanks very much John and others involved in keeping the Chrome Portable up to date in such a timely fashion - the only issue I have is it would be nice if autoupdate could be enabled, but obviously if that were do-able it'd be done, so not a complaint - let me know if there's an enhancement update request thread somewhere on google.com for me to +1.

Hans, this is a late reply,

Hans,
this is a late reply, but I actually forgot about this thread. Can you give the extensions you use to give Chrome the TabMixPlus functions?

Thanks!
