Disable Auto Update For A Specific Application

How do I disable update of a specific application? I wish to disable update of utorrent as the new version is adware. It displays advertisements in the main screen & as such is extremely annoying.

Thank You

Rename

You can rename the uTorrentPortable directory to uTorrentPortableOld and the updater won't alert on it anymore.

You could also try qBittorrent Portable which has no ads.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Thank You

I really appreciate this help. Can we have an option in the program itself or the configuration file?

Some Point

We'll likely introduce it at some point. It's not recommended, of course. The version of uTorrent that didn't have ads is highly insecure at this point and should not be used, for example.

Thanks a lot John.

Thanks a lot John.
Has the function (disable auto update of a specific Portable App) been implemented already?

If the only reason you are

If the only reason you are trying to disable updates on uTorrent is to use an ad-free version, you would be better off upgrading (as John says, security issues) and then disabling the ads from being displayed.

Steps to disable the ads:

  1. Go to Options->Preferences->Advanced
  2. Type "offers" in the filter box (without the quotes)
  3. Set the options "offers.sponsored_torrent_offer_enabled" and "offers.left_rail_enabled" to false
  4. Type "upsell" in the filter box (again without the quotes)
  5. Set the option "gui.show_plus_upsell" (the only option that should come up) to false (not an ad but the interface is cleaner without it, especially for smaller resolution displays)
  6. You may need to restart uTorrent for all changes to take effect

This works 100% on the current version of uTorrent, although I know some versions since the introduction of ads don't have all the settings I listed.
