I would like to see a portable version of KeePassX (http://www.keepassx.org/). Its interface is very similar as KeePass Password Safe's but this is cross-platform. I have installed Windows XP and Ubuntu in my PC and I just need one password file for the two systems. Both versions can read and write the same password file without language code issues (my native language is Spanish). I think it would be fantastic if I could carry this app in my USB stick along with my pass file in order to access my keys anywhere on the road.
I'll take a look play with it ect. and get back to you on Monday.

It's really unnecessary. KeePassX *IS* KeePass, which we already have packaged. You can move the password file back and forth between your local install of KeePassX on Ubuntu, your local install of KeePass on Windows and KeePass Portable.

i do it all the time. I dont need to move anything, I just open the file from the usb within keepassx.

My KeepassX automatically opens the file on my stick if its plugged in.

Well John that is true but KeePass will be going away shortly. The author has announced that the 2.0 branch will use the .net and the 1.0 wil stop updating in a while. So it would be good to have the other ready for when it's gone. I'll make a dev test of it just for fun. Also I've been playing with it and it does have more features that are kinda nice to have.

I also would appreciate to add a portable version of KeePassX to my flash drive.
I reinvestigated and reassessed whether or not I'd prefer to use KeePass or KeePassX in all of my environments (linux, win, etc.) and I concluded that I appreciate using KeePassX 0.4.3 over any version of KeePass. The functionality of KeePass compared to KeePassX is slightly different, and I find KeePassX to be more convenient in terms of ease of use.
second this
We've discussed it before, but KeePassX's stable version is over 3 years old and basically abandoned. KeePass, on the other hand, is regularly updated.
KeePassX's alpha 2.0 release lacks major functionality and isn't worth using at the moment.

ok, good points.
i think i'll try regular Keepass Portable on Windows as there doesn't seem to be much difference anyway and the database file works fine on both. i just wanted to make sure there was portable and cross-platform available in the same program because i don't want to have to migrate again like i had to with Roboform and Lastpass.
Thanks.
The .net runtimes are not portable, and therefore it cannot be assumed that they are present on a given host machine.
As a result there are not currently any official portable apps that require .net.
There are plans in the future perhaps, but those apps might not be immediately visible as options by default for that reason, as the user of them would really need to be aware of that limitation.
If at first you do not succeed, use more sticky tape.
I think KeepassX is Qt-based, IIRC. KeePass.NET aka KeePass Pro is .NET-based.
