Intro: Hi, John. I'm a long time (ab)user of PortableApps and also a Drupal user but this is the first time I'm going to make an app request. Thanks for the opportunity :-).
Program: BareGrep
What it is: A free file finding and text searching tool with latest release "Release 3.50a" dated 2006-11-02

"Flexible configuration options and storage
-Many configurable user preferences
-Preferences can be saved to a file, the registry or not at all on exit
-Preferences are loaded from a file in the local directory, a file in the application directory or the registry (in that order)
-Preferences can be loaded and saved at any time by the user, and shared with other users
Single small executable, no installer
-No installation needed, start using the tool immediately
-Small executable can be run from the network
-Easy to temporarily install and then completely remove"
My personal remarks: I've been using this software for quite some time now (years) and I find it quite indispensable as it works extremely fast, has a very small footprint and is very convenient to use. I also find their other product BareTail very useful for my own purposes.
For your consideration. Thanks!
Hi, I see that on the Restrictions paragraph of the license, they say:
So, I'm really sorry, but this app can't be touched or modified in any way.
Bye
Couldn't it be used like some other launchers do where it downloads the application without modifying it?
Yes, it can be made, but the software is already stand-alone, it could also be made portable on own, because the presentation says:
So, the launcher wouldn't be needed, the only thing to do is change the settings manually on startup i think...
Yeh suppose your right if it saves settings to a file anyway then it wouldn't be worth the extra work.
