I know, I know...I've requested MyPaint before, but the Windows development for MyPaint is close to being dead. The Linux side is great but no one wants to volunteer for updating the Windows side.
So as an alternative, I'd like to request these two apps. Both are freely available one as a freeware and the other as open-source. Though, reading more about them kind of raises some questions on how they can be portable...but I have faith on our devs here.
Pixia - Originally a Japanese software, it is available now in English and can downloaded here: http://www.ne.jp/asahi/mighty/knight/download.html
Current version is Pixia 5.41k. Thing is, it's a freeware, and the author is in Japan. I don't know how we PortableApps could go about asking the author's permission to have it Portable. The original Japanese site is here: http://www.pixia.jp/ And the author's email is posted on there at the top.
Krita - This is a very neat painting program. Just like MyPaint it originally came from Linux. However, unlike MyPaint, it is very stable and up to date on the Windows side. Source can be downloaded here: http://krita.org/download (at the bottom).
Current version is 2.7 with 2.8 on the way. Although open-source, the Windows side is being managed by a different group...KO GmbH. I'm not entirely sure if they would release the source for Windows to our devs here or not. As you can see from the Krita download page, the Windows version is only available through http://www.kogmbh.com/download.html (don't mistake it for "Krita Sketch", KS is not that good). I can't find the Windows source from KO GmbH's website.
Well I hope we any of those two apps in the PortableApps suite of tools. Having both would be great, but beggars can't be choosers...still hopeful though.
Many Thanks
-Brian
Hi, today I've made a portable version of Pixia v5.4.0, tested on Windows XP Pro SP3 and 7 64/32 bit (Administrator Rights only needed for the installation).
You can download it here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/pixiaportable/files/latest/download?sou...
The installer is like the PortableApps one, it includes all files and the uninstaller tool.
Setup size: 7,46 MB - After Install: 23,66 MB
The language chosen is only for setup and uninstall.
It should be completely portable and functional, if not, please tell me any issue.
Also, I'm making a portable version of Krita, but it will take some time, so stay tuned
Bye
DO you have permission of the developer of the program to re-distribute it? Is it open source, since sourcforge is for open sourced software only?

Hi, unfortunately I don't have any permission and the program is freeware, not open source. Sorry for the inconvenience, I missed the fact that only Krita is open source and licensed for free redistribution... Should I delete this?
you can only host open-source programs on sourceforge as it's against their terms so I would remove the project all together

Ok sorry, deleted.
I'm in the process of getting permission from the author of Pixia...I haven't heard anything back though. Where does non-open-source freeware get hosted? Is there another place Pixia-Portable can be hosted on?
And yes, I do believe Krita is open-source.
Many thanks for all your efforts.
