[Closed] after restore, apps don't appear in start menu

Hello,

I backed up my PortableApps and the program created the following file,
"PortableAppsBackup-2013-09-06-Data.7z".

I restored the backup. The program files are listed in the directory named, "C:\Users\bran\Documents\portApps\PortableApps".

But, not one of the restored apps appear in PortableApps start menu.

How do I find out what I did wrong?

Thank you.

Locations

When you extracted the 7z, did it create a Start.exe and Documents and PortableApps directories within PortApps? And are you running start.exe directly in PortApps?

Hello, I installed

Hello,

I installed PortableApps and then used the Restore From Backup to restore the 7z backup.

I installed PortableApps into C:\Users\bran\Documents\portApps

Inside the directory portApps are,

  • Documents (dir)
  • PortableApps (dir)
  • Autorun.inf (file)
  • Start.exe (file)

I am running Start.exe from there.

But, PortableApps only shows the 2 programs I installed locally.
It does not show the other programs that the backup restored.

Thank you for your assistance.

Restore

Did you restore them into a new folder or over your old installaton?

The *-Data.7z indicates a "Data only"-backup which doesnt backup the full programms but just your data. So if you restore them into an empty folder, you need to install the programms over the backup to get a working copy.

I didn't know that the backup

I didn't know that the backup is only the data. I'll restore the programs at some point. Thank you for your help and the explanation.

Correct

Sorry about that. I completely missed Data in the name of the file you restored. But, yes, you can just install each app over the missing one and it'll work with the restored Data.

You can do full backups as well, which will backup the data, documents and apps, but it takes quite a bit longer and will result in a much larger backup file.
