Firefox Profile for Windows & Linux Compatibility

I am contemplating on switching to Linux on my home system. (My work system is Windows 7.) I'm trying to plan on what adjustments I will have to make by doing so.

I have Firefox portable on a thumb drive that I use between work and home. Are the Firefox profile files (not program) and structure interchangeable between the two versions of Firefox, Windows and Linux?

So I can copy the profile from the thumb drive (Win) to the Firefox profile directory in Linux and Linux to thumb drive?

Thanks.

Should be able to

From what I remember with my stint with Ubuntu a while ago, you should be able to drop the new profile in there just fine. There are two words of caution though: 1) Not all plugins that are compatible with the Windows versions are compatible with the Linux versions and vice versa (though this may have changed since I last tried), and 2) you have to make sure you change the ini file to say the "imported" profile is default. Hope this helps!

It does.

Really didn't think of the extensions not being compatible. Forgot there part of the profile. I'm assuming you meant the extensions, you said plugins above. There not in the profile directory but in a "plugin" directory at the same level as the profile directory.

Yes, extensions

Yeah, I meant extensions and plugins actually. Some plugins like Silverlight and Flash cannot be accessed the same way in a Linux environment.
