If you have the problem, that your NPSWF32.DLL in /Data/PlugIns is not working, then you have a Flashplayer Version >= 11.3 and this versions have the "ProtectedMode" from Adobe.
If you have no admin-rights and access on your pc, you can only work with a version
Thanks so much for the solution.
I've tried according to exactly what you advised (create mms.cfg, type in protectdmode=0 and copy to two folders, download the latest NPSWF32.DLL and copy to data/plugins/ and delete other files in this folder, set plugins.load_appdir_plugins to true). But after that I still failed to load flash.
My laptop is running win 7 pro 64bit and my portable firefox is now version 24.
Is it because of wrong npswf32 (I searched and got the latest flash dll file is NPSWF32_11_8_800_168.dll)?
Would you please further advise?
Many thanks!
Hello youngsoybean (here is op),
your NPSWF-file is fine and correct! Here is a solution for your problem: Try to create only ONE(!!) Folder in C:\WINDOWS\
If you have a 32Bit OS, create ONLY the Folder macromed in /System32/,
if you have a 64Bit OS, create ONLY the macromed Folder in /SysWOW64/
The absolute path for your PC is: "C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\macromed\flash\mms.cfg"
The content of the "mms.cfg" - file should be
ProtectedMode=0
I got a 64Bit OS and it works for me great with the latest NPSWF32.dll ( 11.8 ) on my pc with firefox portable 24!! So try to create only ONE mms.cfg in C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\macromed\flash and it should work!
feedback would be nice
Thanks so much for your detailed inputs!
I therefore deleted the mms.cfg in \system32\ and modified the content of mms.cfg in \syswow64\ from:
ProtectedMode=0
SilentAutoUpdateEnable=1
AutoUpdateDisable=0
to
ProtectedMode=0
And then I copied NPSWF32_11_8_800_168.DLL and NPSWF32.DLL(same file and renamed from NPSWF32_11_8_800_168.DLL) in portable firefox\data\plugins\.
Finally I still failed (showing you need to install flash).
Would you mind advising again?
Thanks!
Hello again,
after putting the NPSWF32.dll in your /data/plugins - Directory, is in your Plugins of your firefox portable the"Shockwave Flash 11.8.xxxx" plugin showed? (about:plugins)
like this:
Shockwave Flash
File: NPSWF32.dll
Path: \yyyyyyy\Data\plugins\NPSWF32.dll
Version: 11.2.202.235
If not, there is your problem. The problem would be a wrong NPSWF32.dll - file, because firefox only show the plugin entry if the .dll - file is o.k
I think the problem is not your mms.cfg, it is your .dll - file
Did you try to download the latest adobe flash, install it and extract the NPSWF32_xxxxx.dll of the flash directory?
In your FirefoxPortable/Data/plugins/ - directory should be ONLY one NPSWF32.dll - file, nothing else!
So look in about:plugins, if there is a flash plugin entry.
feedback would be nice
Thanks for your help so many times.
Here is the information that I got after typing in "about:plugins".
Shockwave Flash
File: NPSWF32_11_9_900_117.dll
Path: C:\windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\NPSWF32_11_9_900_117.dll
Version: 11.9.900.117
State: Disabled
Shockwave Flash 11.9 r900
...
Shockwave Flash
File: NPSWF32.dll
Path: D:\...\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\Data\plugins\NPSWF32.dll
Version: 11.8.800.168
State: Disabled
Shockwave Flash 11.8 r800
There are two shockwave flash shown and both of them are "disabled". The NPSWF32.dll file in my portable firefox plugins folder is almost the latest(the dll in my system folder is updated today).
As I mentioned, I copied the NPSWF32_11_x_x00_xxx.dll to the portable firefox plugins folder and renamed it to NPSWF32.dll. Is this wrong?
First: Did you try to uninstall Adobe Flash, so that you would only have
"Shockwave Flash
File: NPSWF32.dll
Path: D:\...\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\Data\plugins\NPSWF32.dll
Version: 11.8.800.168
State: Disabled
Shockwave Flash 11.8 r800"
in your about:plugins of your portable firefox? Then try again.
Second: Why is the plugin in your /Data/plugins - Directory deactivated? Try to activate it over
"Firefox - Addons (Manager) -> PlugIns -> Activate / Ask to Activate"
If you want the option "Ask to Activate" you must go to about:config and set the value of "plugins.click_to_play" to TRUE
It should like my options (i work with version 11.2, but it is similar)
screenshot of my working options:

I think your new 11.9 dll-file is okay, so i think it is something wrong in the settings of your firefox portable.
You can try to use this dll-file (version 11.2)
http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/forum/read.php?1,114856,page=4
http://www.datafilehost.com/download-afc586fd.html
to see if it works with an older version of flash.
"Firefox - Addons (Manager) -> PlugIns -> Activate / Ask to Activate"
Then it's done!
Thanks for all your help!
these links are not working more use this links to download

Just wanted to say that i just tested the dll-file from http://www.datafilehost.com/download-afc586fd.html and it is working great with my firefox portable 25 (Data/plugins/NPSWF32.dll) without creating any other files in the system directory
try it
And the solution with the mms.cfg and ProtectedMode=0 is only against the problem with the freezing shockwave player after loading the plugin in FirefoxPortable.
If you get the error that you should install the latest flash plugin, then you should look at about:plugins
thank you!
I just installed Firefox today due to Opera's conversion to Chrome.
- i was frustrated wondering why Firefox kept freezing.
- sucks those 2 folders have to be added.
But atleast Firefox doesn't lock up when Flash is encountered.
This should be pinned or something.
Hello,
thanks. I forget to say that it is not neccessary to create the folders in /System32/ AND /SysWOW64/
It is enough to create only one folder with the mms.cfg, so for 32bit in /system32/ OR(!!) for 64bit in /SysWOW64/
I agree, it sucks to create the mms.cfg, but it is the fault of adobe with their "ProtectedMode".
If you dont want to create the mms.mfg in /WINDOWS/, you need to download the NPSWF version 11.2 or lower, because the ProtectedMode was invented at version 11.3!! this should be a solution for the people, who want to carry their Firefox Portable + Flash portable on an usb drive without creating files in the system directory.
thanks alot man.. i've hesitated using Firefox because of this issue.
I've been trying to track down 11.2 and finally found it today.
Im anal when it comes to unnecessary trash
FYI:
NPSWF32_11_2_202_235.dll
http://www.zhaodll.co/plus/download2.php?aid=79801
yay, np! i am using 11.2 too, because i have my firefox portable on my usb drive to get access to flash movies on every pc
