PA & Dropbox - update.ini conflict

I have PA installed in my Dropbox folder, and it's working fine for most purposes. The problem is that when PA updates applications on one computer, if I have left it running on another computer, I get a file version conflict in the 'update.ini' file, and PA then updates the same programs on each computer rather than realizing that the program is already updated.

Is there any way to avoid this? (other than remembering to close PA every time I leave one of my computers, obviously)

Thanks!

Updater

The update.ini database is not used between runnings of the updater and the existing one isn't used when you launch a new instance of the updater. So, it doesn't matter what's in the update.ini within your PortableApps.com\Data directory. Even if that update.ini was used, it would see the newer versions of your apps and not update them again.

The only thing that would cause the behavior you see is if you run the updater before DropBox updates all your apps from the other computer. Not sure if you've noticed, but DropBox has gotten progressively slower about syncing as of late.

Ok...

Just to make sure I understand: if I have PA run on startup, and it checks for updates, but Dropbox has not yet synced the PA files I have changed on other computers, I will get the file conflict. If I run PA updater after Dropbox has synched all PA files, then I will not get the conflict. Correct? Thanks.

Correct

After the sync, each app will be updated to whatever you updated on the other PC and then synced to Dropbox. Before the sync, the app is the older version that the Platform (correctly) notes is out of date and then wants to update.

In an ideal world, we'll connect to the running Dropbox instance and ensure your files are synced before checking for updates or allowing an individual app to run. We'll be working on that at some point.
