[Closed] Apps update errors

Hello all,

Has anyone had recently ,during the last few days , experienced problems with updates of some of their apps ?

While I have add success with few of my updates, a lot of others (15 in total) gave me an error message after trying to connect to the server.

Cheers

Depends on the exact apps you

Depends on the exact apps you have had issues with.

Some of our apps use an online installer, and when the publisher of the base app updates there will (for a time) be a mismatch between the MD5 of the file downloaded and the MD5 expected by the PortableApps Installer. This is one reason some apps will fail.

There is also the possibility of incorrect MD5s in our updater database, which I seem to remember there was a couple of recently.

Another reason could be issues with Sourceforge or one of their mirrors for open source releases.

Then there is always the possibility of interference from firewalls and/or antivirus software which will sometimes cause issues.

Nothing seems to work for me

I'm getting the same error on every application that attempts to update.

First I get a dialog that says "Download Error: SendRequest Error on file", followed by an address to the updated installer.

Next I get a dialog that says "The PortableApps.com Updater did not complete successfully. Please try again later."

Proxy

Did you accidentally enter some proxy information? Or, do you need to enter some?

Note, only Automatic mode is currently supported on the platform beta.

updates error message

Hi John,

I have my settings on automatic mode, no proxy.

The error messages are the same than those mentioned by Doug.

The weird thing is that I haven't changed anything. My updates used to work well in the past. It is only recently that it changed.I had the problem again today. If I didn't have so may apps to update, I would wipe my drive completely and re-install the apps from scratch. But I have about 300 of them ! So, out of question.

When

Do you know about when this started? Have you tried it on a different PC with the same drive (assuming it's a portable device, that is)? Could you try a fresh temporary install of the platform, just to your Desktop directory as well?

updates error messages

Hi John,

I realize now that something has changed on my computer. I still don't know what. Maybe it is my firewall after all.I tried another computer and it started to download the updates immediately without problem.

Thanks John. I should have thought of that myself.

Ok

Ok, it can easily be a firewall setting if it's a software firewall that blocks outgoing connections by default. If you need help sorting it on your own computer, just let us know.

Looks like a firewall issue

It just occurred to me in reading this thread that I'm trying to do this on a new computer. So I disabled my Symantec firewall temporarily and tried it again, and it worked this time.

Alert?

By default, it should alert you that an app is trying to connect, giving you an option to allow or deny it. Or is it just set to deny everything not already approved?

Not sure

It didn't prompt me for anything so I'm not actually sure what was going on. I had the same security software on my old XP Thinkpad and never had this issue, so either the policy on my new install is different or it behaves differently under Windows 7 than XP.
