I tried to download the libreoffice update through the PortableApps update and it keeps failing.
I also went to the PA website and tried the link there: "http://mirror.nexcess.net/tdf/libreoffice/portable/4.1.3/LibreOfficePort..."
I did a search but couldn't find any references to this.
The PA updater fails/Faults with a download error and Firefox just stops the download at 39.8Mb. I tried both the
I was able to reproduce on 2 different computers and 2 different networks, in fact I could not get it to work at all, but both were running win 7x64.
WxDownload worked by bypassing whatever was wrong, so I was able to download and update it but wanted to know if I am alone or this is something others are experiencing.

I downloaded from the link you gave and got the full 113MB file. So it's on that mirror and serving properly.

John,
I did not want to get involved with the other discussion so went dark for while.
Just a quick update the Libreoffice issue started with release 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 so has been around since at least Oct 11.
Also I tried a clean install (today 2013-12-02) in 2 different locations with PAUdater (12Beta).
Both installations did not fail, only the one not installed in the root directory failed with 'Connection' set to automatic.
The error I received was:
"Download Error: Reget Error on file https://portableapps.com/redirect/?a=LibreOfficePortable&t=http%3A%2F%2F..."
It was still failing on Firefox as well and I tried both the latest 4.1.3 and the legacy versions.
It only downloaded partials 5.1Mb and 8.6Mb for the 2 tries for the latest version and 45.9Mb for the legacy version.
FYI one drive has 22Gb free and the other has 55Gb free so it is not a space issue.

We'd need to find out what mirror you're using. If it's happening consistently with the updater and a browser, then it's either an issue with LibreOffice's mirror, something in between you and it, or something locally, none of which are under our PA.c's control.
From your browser, right-click on the link you're downloading from LO, paste into your addressbar, and add .mirrorlist to the URL.
You wind up with something like this: http://download.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/portable/4.1.3/LibreO...
That should give you more info on your default mirror as well as let you select other mirrors.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
This was the source URL listed in Firefox that it downloaded from, it only downloaded 15.14MB this time.

Thanks for the full details. I just downloaded from the mirror you're having issues with again. I got the full 113MB file and it ran successfully. Do you know if there's not some sort of cache on your local machine or between you and that mirror, possibly at the ISP level or on your local network? That's the only thing I can think of offhand on my end, but then I'm no expert on these things.
I've passed your full report along to the LibreOffice folks for further analysis as well. Hopefully they'll have some more ideas.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
John,
I just got 2 failures in PA Updater for McAfee Stinger and Utorrent.
I recorded the tcp log, see below, it appears to be using/failing with sf.mirror.iweb.ca.
Since this is not your issue we can close this thread out.
FYI, I am running without a local cache, but the internet communications go though a "FireBox" server at work and a cable modem/router (Brighthouse/Road Runner) at home.
Thanks, & stay awesome!

Others are experiencing similar issues, but there's not a consensus yet about what is happening, and whether they're related problems or not. You can read more here:
https://portableapps.com/node/37798
For now, I'm inclined to think that the updater is simply unreliable. That's the only way I can reconcile the diverse issues people are having. The one thing they all have in common is PortableAppsUpdater.exe, but there's no single point of failure that everyone experiences every time it fails. I have tested the issues I'm having on 4 different PC's, and right now it looks that the updater fails as much as 50% of the time, for no identifiable reason.
A mirror issue with one of The Document Foundation's servers has nothing to do with your specific issue. These mirror issues happen about one or two mirrors per release of LibreOffice (the Indonesia mirror also had issues this release). Their mirror network for hosting both portable and local copies of LibreOffice is less reliable than SourceForge (we use this for our open source) and MaxCDN (we use this for our freeware).
Millions of people use the updater daily without issue. I realize it is frustrating having an issue on your end, but that's no reason to go around posting in unrelated bugs like this one.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I don't care how many millions of people use the updater. Far more people use MediaWiki and Wikipedia, and I have no trouble finding, reporting, and sometimes fixing bugs that no one else has found. I can easily get around most of the bugs I find, including the one in the PortableApps Updater that I'm working on now. In other words, I'm not frustrated, I'm thorough and effective. I connect the dots, explore all possibilities, and write notes and documentation about my findings as I go, including answering questions like the one asked here.
Helping people and answering questions is my most effective bug hunting strategy. If you don't like that, take a number. A lot of people don't like bad news, but shooting the messenger is stupid, and I assure you it won't make me go away. I'm a good ally to have, but if I'm cramping your style, you can just ban me. That will probably make me go away.
I have anonymously donated money for your PortableApps project in the past. After making the donations, I became more interested, and that translates into me eventually finding an opportunity to contribute something else. For whatever reason, I seem to like the challenge of bug hunting. I have benevolent intentions, and I'm not a whining pest. But, you're the boss here, so your point of view is the only one that matters.
I think 3 paragraphs on this subject are enough for now. It's just a hobby for me.
This is an unrelated bug form users due to an issue with The Document Foundation's mirrors. This is demonstrably not the same bug as yours as this user had no issue at all getting the list of apps and has indicated that the exact same issue of downloading LibreOffice occurs in Firefox. And, as I stated, LibreOffice's download network has had these issues before and was having one on another mirror at the same time.
Posting in this bug sends out email notifications to anyone subscribed to this topic, which is annoying considering that it's completely unrelated. Again, I realize your specific bug is annoying. But posting in unrelated topics to try to increase visibility of your issue does nothing.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I disagree. Let me count the ways...
Count 'em, that's three! But why stop there? I'll summarize the work we have contributed so far:
It looks to me like we have made significant progress in isolating the problem to the PortableApps Updater. In response, you're dismissing our results, and you've taken it a step further in treating me with hostility.
Some people don't want contributions to their projects, like testing help, bug reports, workaround solutions, patches, and other fixes. I see that your posts have stopped addressing the actual facts in the bug reports, and have instead started to focus on me personally. So, the pattern emerges once again, and I really don't like it, especially after having actually sent you my money in addition to my time.
For the record, you have complained about me "[going] around posting in unrelated bugs" when, in fact, I have posted in only 2 bug reports: This one by Jestre, and the one by Ackael. A conspicuous fact is that I haven't posted my own bug report. Instead, I conscientiously searched through hundreds of bug report posts first, to see if similar issues had already been mentioned before. This one by Jestre was the only one I found, and it's still the only one I've posted in besides Ackael's. Still, I come out looking like a pest from your point of view. There's nothing nice that I have to say about that.
As far as the email notifications being "annoying", that's red herring nonsense. Let me count the ways...
Thanks for the great software, and the extra crispy red-herring barbecue.
Once again, this bug is about a mirror issue. As the original poster posted "The PA updater fails/Faults with a download error and Firefox just stops the download at 39.8Mb." This user was unable to download via browser and updater. And got to the point of the updater showing the download error message (as it will when an incomplete download is received and the MD5 doesn't match). That means it successfully download the app list and began the download of LibreOffice Portable. Demonstrably different from your issue.
You're fully aware of what you're attempting to do in this post and being helpful isn't part of it.
Please let it go, move on, and proceed to follow the troubleshooting steps in the other bug. Please do not add additional color commentary outside of the bug troubleshooting steps and reporting results. Please do not reply to continue this argument in this thread.
Additionally, please read our forum guidelines before continuing: https://portableapps.com/forums/guidelines
We have a "play nice" policy here as well as prohibitions on advertising links in signatures (which is why yours was removed).
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Haha, whatever you say pal. I spent several days bug-hunting this for you, and I'm the one that found out what was wrong, while you complained constantly through the whole process. Clearly, I must have ulterior motives! ...or maybe you're reacting like you've been insulted when I discovered that all of these problems are the result of an unreliable software design? That's something to ponder, before you decide you need to make an enemy of me.
Nothing I can do or say will make you stop hating me, but my work here is done. Another bad bug has been flushed out of its filthy little hidey hole, and now it's your turn to fix it. Sorry, did I just create more work for you? Oh no! What a malicious person I am! I spent 30 hours on this, and remind me, how much did you pay me? $0.00. Actually, I sent you monetary donations before I realized you had a problem with me, so I'm in the negative. -$xx.xx
Cheers.
Badon, you realize by ranting instead of troubleshooting, failing to provide any additional information (you refused to check or test if IE was functioning despite being asked to 32 hours ago and told that if IE didn't function the updater wouldn't), complaining in this demonstrably unrelated bug again (which you now admit is unrelated as you've tracked it down to a buggy Windows update that kills IE), and by replying in an unrelated bug even when specifically and politely asked not to that you proved my point as to your motivations, right?
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Who cares!? I solved the problem. Furthermore, I identified it as an entire class of problems that includes Jestre's problem. Furthermore again, I identified an entire class of solutions that will solve Jestre's problem too. You've done nothing but whine and complain about this or that insignificant thing that doesn't matter. Me. I got the job done. Did you sleep well? I hope so, because I've been taking care of business for you for free. Is there anything else you'd like to complain about?
You realize that this was not Jestre's problem, correct? That his Windows components were fine and that he downloaded both the app list and the partial LibreOffice install that was available without issue via the Windows components... which would be impossible if they were broken as yours were. You also realize that I suggested the approach that would have clued you in to your broken Windows components 37 hours ago but you willfully ignored them. You also realize that you swore up down and sideways that the issue was in the PortableApps.com Updater when, in fact, it was due to the broken Windows components on your own machine. The very same ones I suggested you check were working 37 hours ago. And, now that you have been proven wrong and fixed the issue on your own machine, you refuse to admit you were wrong and continue to rail against... I'm not even sure. I can only assume you are purposefully trolling at this point.
So, finally, please stop. Read the forum guidelines. "Play nice"! Stop posting ads in you signature. Stop purposefully trolling the folks who are making software for you for free. You're not helping. You're distracting. You've been here 2 days. Please play nice or go away. This is your final warning. We have work to do.

I found the problem, it's described here:

In short, Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE) updates from November 12 have been rolling out, and if the updates failed for any reason, sometimes it resolves itself later, and sometimes it doesn't. The rollouts are typically done with random timing, so that explains why only a few of us are having troubles at different times, instead of millions of us all on the same day, like John T. Haller expects would happen if there were something fundamentally wrong with the PortableApps Updater.
Actually, that's not too far off the mark. The fundamental problem is that the PortableApps Platform is entirely dependent on IE just to download a simple text file with version information, and if IE doesn't work, the entire PortableApps Platform won't work either. That is true regardless of whether you use IE or not, and it's a very un-portable problem that can arise suddenly, and then "follow" you when you use the PortableApps platform on a computer that does automatic updates with IE.
The irony is that if you have automatic updates for IE disabled on the PC's where you use the PortableApps platform, you will probably never have this problem.
Yay for Microsoft Internet Exployer...it can screw over your portable apps too...
I have the same problem on different Pcs with the bigger apps (Gimp, LibreOffice)
EDIT: but I can always download from the browsers
