XnView with OpenEXR support

Hi,
would it be possible for the next update of XnView to include OpenEXR support? It's commonly used in visual effects and animation.

Thank you very much,
FSG

Not developed here

The devs here don't develop XnView, they just package it for portable use. Try contacting the original developer for those sorts of request: XnSoft

XnView MP has a plug-in for OpenEXR format

The new XnView MP by the same developper as XnView has not only a plug-in for OpenEXR format but also Unicode support.

It has been "paffed" just not for an official release yet: https://portableapps.com/node/38462.

Beta

I believe we won't be officially releasing this until it is out of Beta. I think the publisher is considering it a beta until it hits 1.0 at which point it may just become the new official XnView

OpenEXR support

No worries I'm well aware that it's not developed here Wink

The full installer of XnView however has the option to install OpenEXR support. (also listed here: http://www.xnview.com/en/xnview/#formats)

So I assume it is simply not included in the portable package put together here. Ergo my question if the next iteration of the package could come with the plugin in question included. I know it's a bit of a niche file format but then again catering for these is one of XnView's strengths.

Thank you very much.

Plugin

It depends on what version of XnView is used to convert to PAF format. The Minimal and Standard versions of XnView do not include the OpenEXR plugin (Minimal includes no plugins at all, Standard only includes JPEG2000) - only the Extended version (which includes all plugins) includes that particular plugin.

If you need OpenEXR in the meantime, you can just download the plugin (http://www.xnview.com/en/xnview/#addons) and copy it into your XnView installation (the ...\App\XnView\Plugins\ folder specifically).

I believe that PAF uses the Standard version as the base (based on what is in the Plugins folder).

I used to have a sig...until one of the mods ate it

Correct

Indeed, we utilize the "standard" version to build from.

However, as you've indicated, all that's needed is for a user to download and install the plugin as above, and as a bonus - the plugins folder is preserved on upgrades, so unless that plugin is upgraded, they needn't worry about losing it once they've done so.

Thank you

Thank you, I wasn't aware that I could do this and that the plugin folder survives upgrades. I'll go with that solution for now. Thank you for your time.
