Hi,
I have a question regarding the automatic update feature, when it was introduced I wondered where the install packages were saved and I found they were being saved in the default temporary folder, and deleted after the update was finished.
What I would like to know is if there is either a way to change this folder or that the install package is not removed after the installation because I like to keep a copy of the install package if I need to reinstall without having to download it again and also to keep some older versions in case any major bug is introduced in the newer versions.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Ricardo
There are plans to save the installer files to a folder of your choosing but they arent implemented yet.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply, for me more important than to be able to choose the folder is to be able to define if the install package is deleted after installation, hope this is also taken into consideration when the new feature is implemented.

as they are deleted now, I see no reason for them not being deleated if that is implemented.

To keep it portable, updated app paf.exe's should download to a "Downloads" folder somewhere in the PortableApps installation. The user can then keep them or delete them at his pleasure. The old installed apps should be automatically moved to an "Older versions" folder somewhere in the PortableApps installation. The user can then keep these older versions for use if he needs to roll back to an earlier version (just move/delete the later version folder from the PortableApps folder and move/copy the desired version to the PortableApps folder, and refresh the icons) or delete them at his pleasure (to save space on his portable drive, if he already has saved the paf.exe's of the older versions).
Use of these features could be made optional if the user doesn't have enough space on his portable drive to keep multiple versions of his apps.
Do not allow the updates to be fully automatic. Create an "Older versions" folder within your PortableApps.com installation (PortableApps will ignore this folder). When the updater opens a window with a list of apps to be updated, leave this window open at that point, and move all the old versions that you want to save from the "PortableApps" folder to your "Older versions" folder. Then go back to the updater window and allow the updates to proceed. You will then have your older versions safely preserved in your "Older versions" folder. You can roll back to any desired saved older version by moving/deleting the undesired version from the "PortableApps" folder and copying/moving the desired version from your "Older versions" folder to the "PortableApps" folder, and refreshing the icons.
If you want to save the uninstalled (paf.exe) versions of the new apps (to save space on your PortableApps installation, if you're keeping everything totally portable), you will have to download these manually from the PortableApps site (to a "Downloads" folder which you have created in your PortableApps installation, if you're keeping everything totally portable) save the current versions from the PortableApps folder (if you haven't already saved the as-downloaded (paf.exe) versions), and manually install the new versions. Then abort the update procedure.
