At my workplace we have Windows XP, at home I run LibreOffice and can't get myself to save in *.doc format. So I have a USB Stick with LibreOffice Portable, which worked perfectly fine until Friday. In the morning it started all right, later I closed the documents, and when I wanted to reopen them I was told something along the lines "Libreoffice requires windows or higher while you are running Windows ?". So I went to E:\LibreOfficePortable\App\AppInfo\Launcher and deleted the line with the minimum OS. Now it tells me that another instance of libreoffice is starting and I should therefore wait. Nothing is opening, though, no processes either.
Tried to reboot, didn't work. I have since Friday installed Libreoffice Portable afresh, since I had the same issue then, so a new installation doesn't fix the problem.
I have practically no rights on the system, Word can't open them and I can't do anything about that. I have the two documents open in Skydrive now, but that can't be the answer.

This sounds like corruption occurred. Did you check the drive for errors? Did you fully delete the old install before installing a fresh copy over it? You can install LibreOffice to your local PC in a pinch. Installing directly to your Desktop (on later Windows if your username is short enough) or to your C:\Documents and Settings\username directory for Windows XP should work.

Installer tells me after starting that I don't have permission to do anything - like I said. I don't even get as far as choosing a directory.
The drive isn't the problem, I can launch LO Portable at home just fine. Yes, I did remove the first installation. The stick, btw., is a bootable stick with some version of Ubuntu (12.4 or some such) which I want to keep that way for various reasons. But since that wasn't an issue until Friday, I don't believe it is of any significance. Also, it doesn't cause any problems at home.
My assumption is that there is some sort of temp file somewhere that's messing with the bleeding thing. No, that isn't a very sophisticated description, but at this time I can't get myself to try harder. -.-
Is the drive partition it's on formatted as NTFS? If so, are permissions properly setup for Full Access for the Everyone account?

I didn't find anything about permissions. Also permission don't change on their own. I just closed a document and since then couldn't open LO on that system again.
Edit: Tried earlier, didn't work. Changed share of the volume to general or whatever you call that in English. Still didn't work. Changed it back to closed. Still didn't work. Didn't touch the bleeding things for the next .. what? three hours? wanted to open the now-converted .doc file, clicked on the odt by accident and it opened. For whatever reason. If the issue comes up again, I'll let you know, for now, I'm happy if a bit confused.
