Hai,
I installed vlc portable 2.0 and firefox portable 3.6 on my usb drive. After installation I copied libvlccore.dll, npvlc.dll, libvlc.dll from vlc portable installation to the plugins directory of the firefox portable. Finally, when I tried to open the webpage containing an mp4 video, the firefox is not playing the video. But when I checked the plugins installed on the firefox, it shows that the vlc-webplugin is installed. Is the vlc plugin portable ?.
While the plugin is installed, the plugin doesn't actually do anything on its own other than connect Firefox to the full install of VLC. Unfortunately, the plugin only supports a locally-installed copy of VLC, so it can't find VLC Portable. You'd need to ask the VLC folks to support pointing the VLC plugin to a specific install of VLC for this to work.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
VLC 2.0 can be done, prior versions no
You will however need to copy the folders from vlc to X:/PortableApps/FirefoxPortable/data/plugins:
and the files:
I've tested this after uninstalling VLC and it works!
As I've said this only seems to work with VLC 2.0 and up.
I do not know if any information is left behind when using the plugin
This almost is like copy the entire vlc install in this firefox plugins folder.

Hai samuel,
Thank you very much for your post, it helped me a lot.
Thanks! This has been working great but now vlc recently released v. 2.1 and they have restructured the folders and I was planning to do this on my dads pc but had no idea how to (e.g. there's no longer any osdmenu folder). But you can always get an old version from their website, including portable, so you can still do this, just not with 2.1 (it might be doable but I just don't know how).
It would be good to know what to copy.
I copied everything I could think of that's relevant.
Files:
axvlc.dll
libvlc.dll
libvlccore.dll
npvlc.dll
vlc.exe
vlc-cache-gen.exe
axvlc.dll.manifest
npvlc.dll.manifest
vlc.exe.manifest
Folders:
locale\
lua\
plugins\
sdk\
skins\
http://uloz.to/xFSBgd8m/firefox-vlc-plugin-2-1-3-zip
just extract this .rar archive to ?:\FirefoxPortable\Data\plugins
I'll have a look.
