AAARRRGGGHHH!!!

I lost all my settings because of this.

The non-portable version of VLC 2.1.3 also crashes.

I WANT MY VLC 2.1.2 BACK!!!

Updating should not make me unable to use what i could before, otherwise, what's the point of using the platform.

Same

If VLC 2.1.3 crashes on your specific computer, you'll be in the same situation whether you use local or portable. I'd suggest reporting the issue to the VLC team.

I'd also recommend updating your video drivers. That seems to be the common cause with some app crashes that are graphics intensive.

i found the 2.1.2 paf file on

i found the 2.1.2 paf file on sourceforge and now things are back to normal.

It really sucks that the platform doesn't save the paf files. I'll have to think about switching to another platform or going back to manual updates of portable software.

Feature Coming

We make our old versions of all our open source apps available on SF so you can always go back to old versions.

The ability to preserve PAF installers is coming to a future version of the PA.c Platform. If you have a hardware incompatibility with an app or a driver issue causing a given release of an app to crash, you'll have a problem with any software platform that supports automated updates.

Not if it also offers to undo

Not if it also offers to undo updates.

It's not your fault VLC recommends resetting the preferences with every update and that some of those preferences can actually break VLC.

I just hate spending over 4 hours trying to get back what i had.

I hate that computers don't just work. So many shortcuts have been taken since the first PC, that computers are now just bugs on top of bugs waiting to make everything crash.

It's all ones and zeros, why can't it be logical and predictable?

No one does undo

I'm unaware of any app store with automatic updates that supports automated rollback to the previous version. And I'm referring to the big guys like Android, iOS, Apple App Store, Microsoft App Store, etc (billions of dollars, thousands of developers, etc). No one has ever even asked for it as a feature for the PA.c Platform that I can recall offhand.

In the very rare case you want to roll back to a previous version in an app like VLC, just download the old version and install it over the new one. It won't take you more than a few minutes.

If you're troubleshooting one of our apps that won't start, try renaming the Data directory within AppNamePortable to Data-Old, just temporarily, and then starting the app. That will start the app with the default settings. If it fails to start, you know it's not your settings causing the issue. If it starts, then you know it is something in your settings. We have things set up this way by design so it's really easy to reset an app.
