Greetings,
About 2 weeks ago most of my updates started to fail. like 80%ish ( i have alot)
i can download and install them fine normally and most say updating and dont blow out the original conf's( kitty did )
is there a temp folder for downloads i need to clear or sumtin?
is it windows 8?
any ideas or pointers for me?

All downloads are downloaded to your system's TEMP directory and run from there. As always, ensure you have enough free space on your main drive (where TEMP is located) and that there are no permissions issues with it (I don't think that's the case here as it would fail with every download).
Also, what do you mean by 'fail'. Knowing the actual error message you received and at what point will help us try and troubleshoot your issue.

Ok, that error means that the installer the updater/app store was expecting to download isn't what it actually got. This could be due to (1) the download being incomplete, (2) the download being corrupted in between the server and you, (3) the download being corrupt at the server itself, (4) the download being infected by a virus on your machine as it is downloaded, or (5) the downloaded file not actually working and an error page downloading in place of the file.
As you can download TeamViewer and say you have a weird NAT tether with your phone, I'd put my money on #5. TeamViewer is downloaded from the publisher while the other apps are downloaded from your nearest SourceForge mirror. I'm guessing that TeamViewer when downloading shows a long % downloaded progress meter on the screen and takes a few seconds, but how long do the other apps take to download? Firefox Portable, for instance, is 26MB and should take a little bit to download. One final thing, what country are you located in? Just to ensure you're not in a blocked country (Cuba, Iran, etc).

if one fails it does it almost immediately, like it cant connect.
otherwise the download time is normal per filesize
i am in miami, usa
so i downloaded the apps that wont update thru this site and all were sourceforge ones.
they installed fine
google chrome went out and downloaded the files needed.
the updater wont get the sourceforge ones it seams like you said
That's what I figured. SourceForge files download differently through the browser than through the updater. If you're doing a weird NAT thing on your phone, any chance you're adjusting the user agent? SourceForge will serve a webpage on links from browsers but serve the actual file to our updater using the NSIS download component. So, if your NAT tether thing is adjusting user agents, it will break the updater/app store. That's one possibility any way. Can you try it from another connection? Say wifi at work/school/cafe/etc?

I planned on trying from a normal connection, It might be a few days but I will defiantly let you know the outcome.
Thank you for all you do.
I have been a huge fan of portable apps since my first 256mb from costco for $59 in 2004. firefox, thunderbird, filezilla were a godsend to me as i didnt own a pc at the time, i went to libraries, internet cafes and friends. always having the same settings/stuff was amazing.
I now use a 128gb usb3 centon stick with 2 main truecrypt files on it. 100g for my webserver backup, and a 4g one for daily stuff including all the portable apps. miranda, microsip, notepad++,kitty(cuz it auto reconnects),open office, lastpass and screamer are some of my other daily main apps
I do the truecrypt thing for security first(if i loose the drive the finders cant get crack the files(i hope)), and backups are alot faster/easier. i backup the 2 files weekly to a 2tb local drive and a 2tb drive i give to a friend.
newayz, I will confirm that its just my connection asap.

ps- my connection is: galaxy s3 >> t-mobile >> foxfi app >> usb teather >> windows 8 >> pdanet desktop app
I believe (but am not positive) that Foxfi/PDANet+ alters the user agent of connections to bypass T-Mobile's ban on tethering without paying. Because the useragent is altered to an Android mobile browser, SourceForge is pushing down a redirect webpage to the updater/app store instead of just pushing the file because it thinks it is talking to a browser and not an app downloader. Unfortunately, as SourceForge is entirely keyed to the useragent to push a download directly and your connection is altering the useragent, I don't think you'll be able to download via the updater/app store while on this modified connection. Unless it has some way to not alter the connection when a specific useragent is involved (like wget or NSIS_dl).
You're welcome for the apps and the assistance.

Greetings,
Glad to hear your surgery was a success.
I finally was able to go ashore with my laptop and verify that you were correct about my pdanet connection.
pdanet modifies the useragent to be "Mozilla/5.0 (en-us;)"
A normal wifi connection lets me do the auto updates.
So all I can do is when I get update alerts via rss from your website, I vist the download page with firefox on my phone and download them and then transfer them to my laptop.
A little extra work but still worth it for your excellent portable apps.
Thanx again for all you do.
