The platform indicated that the subject update was available but fails with a 404 error. The GC Portable page shows this version available as the beta download, which also fails, & I don't see the file on SourceForge. Was it posted & then pulled for some reason or perhaps got added in the text places but the file wasn't put on SF?

Hmm..
I'm seeing the same thing, Source Forge throws a 'could not be found or is not available' popup,same thing happened with the previous version, Stable Chrome downloads fine.

It looks like the earlier upload failed somehow. I've reuploaded and it should hit the mirrors soon.
We don't announce Chrome betas anymore.
