Save Space with Splash Screens

I'm not sure this is the right place to post this, but i was playing around with the splash screens for the apps on this site, and if you use the "Flatten Image" option in GIMP, then save the splash, the size for a majority of the splash screens is nearly cut in half. Not only does this save space because the splash is smaller, but if you recompile the launcher after doing this, the launcher takes up less space at all.

I thought that all Flatten

I thought that all Flatten Image did was flatten all the layers, which JPGs do not have. I am curious to how this works.

Correct

That is exactly what it does.

I thought so too...so I have

I thought so too...so I have no idea why this works, I just know it does...the OOo splash dropped from almost 60kb to 30kb, and the others from around 40 or 50kb to somewhere between 20 and 30

While you may have flattened the image..

you probably saved the file in a lower resolution, that is why the file may be smaller.

good call....forget i said

good call....forget i said anything on this topic lol, the default in GIMP is 72dpi and the splashes are originally in 96dpi...unfortunately GIMP doesn't ask you what resolution you want to save as if you open and edit an image
