Hello.
New member have to say thanks first for your work..
Most of the software i use is from Portableapps.
I have a problem with WinSCP. I use latest version from Portableapps 5.5.1(3970)
If i make desktop shortcut fron winscp menu to connect to a site it doesn't work. I get this error:
"The server rejected SFTP connection, but it listens for FTP connections.
Did you want to use FTP protocol instead of SFTP? Prefer using encryption. "
The connection i use for my sites is FTP.
Strangely the desktop shortcut works if i connect normally to the site from WinSCP login menu and then if i use the desktop shortcut it connects also without giving that error.(at this point there are 2 connections to the same site).
I have tried the portable version from Winscp site and that one works without problem.
I hope i gave the needed details in order to resolve this issue.
Thanks
I'll take a look this evening to confirm, but I suspect that creating desktop shortcuts in this manner using WinSCP Portable will be unsupported, as doing so likely bypasses the portability.
Ok, I checked on my system by setting up a brand new connection on a new copy of WinSCP Portable, and here's what I've found:
As expected, when making a desktop shortcut from the winSCP menu, the app directs the shortcut to WinSCPPortable\App\winscp\WinSCP.exe, which bypasses the portability aspects of the app, and will show behaviour as you've indicated. However, if you edit the properties of the shortcut prior to using it, and direct the target instead to WinSCPPortable\WinSCPPortable.exe, it will work as you expect it to do so. If it does not, please indicate such, and we can try and figure out what's happening.
Your solution worked. Thanks
In my case i changed the shortcut target to
"C:\Portable\PortableApps\WinSCPPortable\WinSCPPortable.exe"
instead of
"C:\Portable\PortableApps\WinSCPPortable\App\winscp\WinSCP.exe"
