Hi I have been trying to find information on how portable firefox works. I have serached many forums and have come up with nothing.
I am refering to if the app leaves recoverable data. As you are browsing does it write temp to the drive? and if so upon exit does this mean the data is still present and the only way to truly remove data is by erasing free space???
If anyone knows the answers to these questions please advise.

I have read the definition and understand it although, it still doesnt clarify where the data is held while you are surfing, it must cache it somewhere, in RAM maybe? if it caches on teh thumdrive then there will be traces of recoverable data left that can be accessed via certain software.
I suppose I am after some high level explaination on the actual mechanics of portable firefox.

FFP's disk cache is disabled. It's cache is kept in RAM. No personal data is ever written locally. This has been asked and answered many times.
