I have run Thunderbird portable for some years now without issue. I have about 20 email addresses and 3 years worth of emails. It lives on an external drive.
Recently my laptop died and I luckily had not long backed up to the external drive.
I've got my new laptop now however when I click to start Thunderbird it acts as if it is a new program, with no record of my emails, my accounts or anything. What am I doing wrong?

I'm sorry I don't understand that?
Go to Tools in Thunderbird then import select what you want to import and point the directory to wherever you have the back up files located
