KeePass got automatically downgraded to 1.27 - can't load my db anymore

Hi

KeePass got auto-"updated" to 1.27 today - it was 2.2x before so it actually got downgraded. And since then it won't load my database anymore. It starts empty. I also can't open my db because it wants *.kdb or *.pwd file while my db is a *.kdbx file.

It worked fine/normal just right before the update.
I use the portableapps start menu and it checks for updates automatically and it won't find any now.

How can that be?

We have never offered an

We have never offered an official release of the 2.x line for KeePass due to its .NET framework requirement.

The only way you could have had a PortableApps package of 2.2x installed is if you had one of the versions available in the beta testing section of the forum, or had installed a package that was not made here on PortableApps.

Further, for it to have "updated" to the 1.x line the 2.x package you had installed must have been badly made (given an illogical internal PackageVersion) because the PortableApps Updater would never update a higher PackageVersion to a lower PackageVersion.

Wrong App

We have never released or supported KeePass Professional 2.x as it is a .NET app and won't run on all kinds of PCs you're likely to come across. If you're unfamiliar, KeePass Classic 1.x and KeePass Pro 2.x are essentially entirely separate incompatible apps that can't use each others database formats. Confusing huh?

The only thing I can think of is that you installed a dev test of it, possibly from this thread and renamed the folder from KeePassProPortable to KeePassPortable. Doing so would make the platform treat it as KeePass Portable and upgrade as appropriate. Either that or you manually downloaded KeePass Pro Portable in zip form from KeePass itself and stored it in a folder called KeePassPortable, which would make the platform upgrade it to the current release since it would see your existing version as version 0.0.0.0.

In either case, you can rename the folder to something other than KeePassPortable and manually install the app you want in it and it will remain as is. If you're manually using the zipped version, I'd recommend just KeePass or KeePassPro as the folder name, so the platform will never mistake it for an app.

Hm, then it was me who messed it up.

Had the portable version before I discovered the convenience of the start menu of this site and moved my KeePass portable v2 folder to my hdd and added all wanted apps from here to my usb stick and since I had a database already I thought I'd move the v2 folder content to the usb stick and everything is fine and everything was fine till now ^^

Didn't even check if there was a version difference, wouldn't even think that this would matter.

Well, only means I can copy the content again, except for the db file and everything is as before and will remain as long as I ignore update messages.
Cba to redo a new db.

Sorry for my panic.

But now a completely different question if that's allowed.

If I add other portable programs to my usb stick, programs that are not available on this site, can I have them linked on the start menu nonetheless?

Rename

I'd suggest renaming the directory to something besides KeePassPortable or KeePassProPortable (what the official KeePass 2.0 release will be called). Then the updater will never pick it up and you won't keep getting bugged to upgrade.

You can add your own apps to the PA.c Menu that aren't PA.c Format apps by placing them in the right location. Details are here: https://portableapps.com/support/portable_apps_suite#addingotherapps
