logoDaphne Portable 2.00 has been released. Daphne is a small (system tray) application for killing, controlling and debugging Windows' processes. It was born to kill a windows process and became almost a task manager replacement. Daphne requires admin rights to run. It's packaged in PortableApps.com Format so it can easily integrate with the PortableApps.com Platform. And it's open source and completely free.

Update automatically or install from the portable app store in the PortableApps.com Platform.

Features

Screenshot You can kill a process by dragging the mouse over the windows, by right-clicking the process in the main process list, or by typing its name with the "Kill all by name" command. You can set a any window to be always on top, to be transparent, to be enable, et cetera. Although Daphne was born just to kill windows process. You can think of Daphne as a task manager replacement. The main window displays a list of currently running process with detailed information about: CPU usage, Process ID, Process name, Full path (and arguments), Priority, Class (Process / Service), Current memory usage, Peek memory usage, Current swap usage, Peek swap usage and Number of threads.

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

Daphne Portable is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. It supports upgrades by installing right over an existing copy, preserving all settings. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Platform including the Menu and Backup Utility.

Daphne's main website states that this version sends anonymous data back to the website. Is there any detailed information on what data it is collecting?

Yeah, I read that - and saw the graphs. It's far from being a detailed explanation, though, and I just wondered if you had learnt more while it was being packaged. It's only curiosity, really, so I've DL'd the source and I'll take a look through that at some point.

It explains every detail of what's being collected and shows it in the graph (OS version, features used, and whether people are using auto-start, auto-update, explorer integration, logs, etc) as well as the geographical usage chart which they glean based on a quick geo-ip lookup on which IPs are reported from. It even states that it doesn't send processes. I'm not sure how they could be more detailed in that explanation.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

John,

I added the portable version for download today: http://www.drk.com.ar/daphne.php

In the past I used to provide this kind of package but I was doing this manually so I stopped eventually. I automatized this process now so I plan to keep both (the MSI and the ZIP) updated all the time.

This ZIP I uploaded correspond to the 2.03 Daphne version which implements MD5 and SHA1 options in the Windows Explorer integration. The installer is in the current 2.02 release yet.

Best regards,
Leandro

Hello Nick,

You can check Daphne.cpp file for dumpConfig() and dumpFeatures() methods which are used for getting data block to be sent to the website. These are called from staticSendStatistics() method (same class).
