LightZone - Open-source Digital Darkroom Software

Hi Developers,

http://lightzoneproject.org/

Lightzone is fairly new to the open-source world since it used to be a commercial software. I believe it transitioned to be open-source just early this year.

It's similar to Raw Therapee (RT) which we have now as a Portable App, but I think it has a bit more editing options. Though I think RT has more demosaic options to process RAW files, Lightzone however has that Adobe Lightroom and Corel Aftershot feel to it. I specially like the ability to custom select parts of your image which you only want processed as opposed to adjusting the whole image. So basically you can lighten up just sections of the image instead of the whole thing. Anyway, I've been using it for about two weeks now and I have not run into problems thus far.

I hope you consider Lighzone as a PortableApp and that it is possible to add this in.

Thank you very much and have a great day.

-Brian

Thanks for taking a crack at it.

Having spent more time using LightZone, I kind of like it and prefer it more than my old Adobe Lightroom 2.

Portable Lightzone

Is there anything that the developers need to do to request that Portable Apps take a look at making a portable version of this program.

It's user base has been growing quite rapidly in the last year.

Another vote for LightZone (review)

I heard about LightZone on a podcast last month. It sounds fantastic:
* Browse AND Process AND Edit
* RAW, JPG, and TIF images
* it is fast & non-destructive (saves to sidecar files)

Dimitri Larmuseau, in his Sourcetrunk podcast #98 of April 2014 reviewed the program and compared it to similar apps:

Basically Dimitri said:
* Digikam, UFRaw & DCRaw, Shotwell, GIMP are all slow
* Darktable, Photivo have lacking interfaces
* RawTherapee is too professional/complicated
* Rawstudio is also fast like LightZone (and I think he said was OK)
* he is absolutely loving LightZone so far

LightZone v4.1.3 Now Available

It's been updated to a new version just recently, so the project is still very active.
Do we have any news if this is going to be made portable?

Unusual Registration Restriction

They have an unusual forced registration system in order to download, so I'd want to make sure that they realize what their license permits. We'd want to have direct contact and permission from them. We previously had an open source author have a meltdown once it was clear he didn't understand the license he'd released his software under even after he'd specifically requested we package his software. I'd like to avoid that in the future.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Contacted

All,

I have initiated contact with them prior to beginning any dev work, in order to ensure that all parties are satisfied with us proceeding with packaging the app, and will keep close contact with them throughout the process.

I'm sorry to hear about the

I'm sorry to hear about the problems with the developer and license. I do hope that this approach goes smoothly this time. I don't want trouble and extra work for the developers.

If it's too much trouble there is another RAW Development program you all could make portable called Photivo. Source is available here: http://photivo.org/download

Though LightZone has a cleaner interface and not as overwhelming as Photivo. But Photivo's license may be easier to deal with...I think it's under GPL3.

Promising

I've heard back from them already, and things sound promising. Hopefully we'll have a dev test up soon.

Any Development Status?

Hi Devs,

Any status on the PortableApp development for LightZone? It was updated to 4.1.6 about two months ago and so far it has been very stable for me.

Many thanks for all your hard work.
